I know the 68 and 69 look different but can you just add the wood grain to 68 top plates to make a 69 4 speed console? Are there ribs under a 69 wood grain like on a 68?
thanks for any help

I have heard of filling the ribs with body putty, sanding smooth, and applying the woodgrain. Can't see why it won't work.

So i guess that 69's dont have the ribs under the woodgrain?

No they don't. But other than that I think they are identical.

My 4 spd console has the ribs under the woodgrain.  The woodgrain decal is applied to a thin piece of alluminum that has  studs on it that go through the top plate and attach by clips or speed nuts (cant remember which) on the underside.  My console compartment door is flat though under the woodgrain.

Hey Brian, you wouldn't happen to know though if someone prior to you converted that console from a 68?

AKcharger

Well before you "modify" that '68 I'd sell it and buy one of the repro '69-70 tops. the '67-68 console tops are very hard to find from what I understand

I did no modifications to this at all.  This was the way it was prior to me purchasing the car 5 years ago.  I have heard though that some 69 cars have had console top plates like this.  My car was built May 9th of 1969 and judging from the fact that the chrome is worn and starting to blister, I doubt that it has been rechromed.  Also, when I removed the decal on it since it was faded when I got it, the holes in the ribbing where the alluminum plate studs went through were also chromed so I would assume it was done like this at the factory.

ribbed top plates are factory. It seems some were,,,, some were not

Well that's interesting.  Maybe not to anyone outside of the 69 B-body Mopar fan club but I feel like something was added to my morning.  Thanks.  ;D
