I know theres two different casting numbers. Which one is the good one and which one is the non rebuildable type? Is that the 452 ?

MoparYoungGun

The 452 is a head casting number, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a rear end casting number. The two rear end casting numbers are the 742 and 489. I believe that the 489 was used in '69 and after, the 742 being used in '68 and earlier. I'm not sure which is rebuildable or anything technical like that. Good luck  !

RD

there are many cases actually, but the main ones are the 741, 742, & 489.  there are some 488's and ones prior to the 741 case.

The 741 742 and 489 cases are good units, If you are getting a sure grip I prefer the clutch style.

I don't think that it is that some are rebuildable and some are not. It is that some are stronger than others.

i have a 489 in my 68 r/t and in my 69 se and will have one in my 69 satellite, as soon as i install it.
