Who restores steering columns other than SMS?

The steering column I'm getting is a column shift, painted black, and performs sloppy. The 74 Charger it is out of had been in a major rear end collison, the speedometer was stuck on 80. So I want to send the steering column off, get it stripped and restored and refinished in my original interior color. The only company I've seen advertised is SMS in the Mopar Collector's Guide. Is there anyone else who can do it? Will I be able to strip it down enough to get all the parts blasted and refinished myself? Taking it to a local mechanic around here, they never normally mess with rebuilding steering columns, so I don't know who to take it to.

its not a big deal to disassemble it youself...   I've done 7 at the shop so far and i didnt even use a book  (yes they worked when i put them together too)      pretty strait forward...     had them media blasted then the housings powdercoated....   look nice when done.

I redid the column from my 69, it was no biggie.  I put a new lower bearing in it and rebuilt the coupler joint at the bottom.  It took me about an hour and a half and it looks brand new.  I didn't replace the turn signal switch because it didn't look bad and tested out ok.

I have column and associated pieces for column shift that have been powdercoated black if you are interested.

I guess I'll give it a try. I've got the 73 Dodge service manual. I hope the column shifter doesn't add anymore confusion to rebuilding it. I remember reading a Mopar Muscle issue saying the console shift columns are simple and easy to rebuild, but the column shift columns are a little more tricky.

piece of cake, nothing to worry specially if you have diagrams. restore a column is juts replace or repaint parts
