after some long hard thinking i think i may have to sell the charge :icon_smile_sad:r-could use the extra cash to finish the new garage, and pay off some high intrest credit card debt from our last baby, before the new one gets here!i hate to sell, but the way i figure i can get a project and start over, and sell my recently aquirred dart and camaro and start over-it is a 72 se,body and paint all finished, new bumpers, hidden headlights-mild 440,with 9000 miles, rebuilt 727 with 175k mopar convertor, newly rebuilt 8 3/4 with 3.55s and sure grip, the only thing it really needs is a small hole in drivers floor board fixed, tranny mount replaced(which i have)and heater core replaced(which i also have)also the hidden headlight motor works sparatically, but it runs and drives great and goes down the road nice and straight-any ideas of what i should ask,if i decide?i will make my mind up today, and probably list it on e bay?

dont say that, i'm in the same boat, baby #2 just arrived and the money would sure be helpfull.   but as other guys have said on here.  you can sell the Charger and pay off the credit card, but in most likely circumstances 2 months or 2 years from now the credit card debt will magically reappear and you will be without a Charger.  having credit card debt sometimes keeps you from putting more things on your card, having a $0 balance on your card invites you to just put a couple things on it....

maybe use the credit card to get the snippy snip and cut off the wallet siphoning machines that are not Charger related..... ?  :)  thats what i'm gonna do.... or so i think, Moma's already talking about # 3 :o

Keep the charger, sell the dart and camaro. Cut ALL the credit cards except for one and pay the rest off one by one starting with the highest interest rates first (especially store charge cards!!!!). It may take awhile but if you stick with it you'll retire the debt.

ramit

First of all, don't sell your charger!  Secondly,  I think you might be disappointed in what your car is worth.  I think the 72 se model is one of the least desireable 72's.  I am not saying that to piss you off or anything because I have a 72 se also.  I just think they don't get the respect they deserve.  In my opinion it is probably only worth about $7,000-$8,500, but like I said that is just what I think.

DO NOT SELL! ;D

Here is a couple recently completed auctions for 72`s.

Andy,  I think you should have taken the money and ran when you were offered 15k for it.  :yesnod:
Seeing that its not original (was a 400 2bbl car) I`d be kind of surprised if it bid more than 6-6.5k on ebay
Probably not what you wanted to hear.... but its my honest opinion for what little it is worth.

I usually try to keep my cards down low but the last few years it seems like a different house project comes up and up goes the credit cards. What I end up doing is taking advantage of those real low interest balance tranfers and go back and forth between my 2 cards. then at beginning of the year i knock most of it out with the tax return.

I have to agree with Tom on this one 110%. Most people don't really care for the small rear quarter windows on these. I really don't myself. But I only bought mine because I couldn't pass up a numbers matching car for $1,500. But that said, it is also the reason I decieded to hot rod the car instead of keeping it original.

Andy, you've got to find yourself a new hobby.
IMHO in the long run you'd be better off to keep the Charger and sell the other cars. I saw your Charger at Carlisle, it's in great shape and with winter and the holidays fast approaching this is the worst time to sell a car like this.
How much will a future project Charger cost?
How much will you spend to get it to the same level as your 72 Charger?
Would selling off your other cars pay off your credit cards?

been there, done that, doing that. I'd keep the Charger and sell the rest,. You'll always have bills of some sort. Loose the cards for sure.

I pretty much agree with everything NH said.

Sorry to see you might sell Andy, as I also saw the car this past year and thought it looked great. You were pretty pumped that you drove it all the way to Carlisle which I loved. You won't get that reaction driving there in a minivan  ;).

If you want to test ebay, simply put it on with a reserve. It's as simple as that.

If you really want to keep the Charger, then find a way to keep it. When we first bought our house I was told "Yep, you'ree mad if you don't sell your old car for a good deposit". Well, I kept the old car and I've never regretted it. Once it was gone, it was gone forever.
If you can afford to, keep the one you really want.

Of course, only you know what your money situation is like. It's easy for all of us to tell you what to do - it's not our car or money.

Andy... I gotta agree with both Brian & Chris on this one.... I saw your Charger as well, and it's a sharp car, that unfortunately probably won't bring you what it's really worth now. The time of year, economy, and the bias against 72's-'74's will work against you. I'm finding the same thing with trying to sell my 66.

The Charger should be the last on the list to sell...definately not before a camaro

IIRC the Camaro was a $500 car and the Dart was a similiarly priced parts/project car. Doesnt take a genius to realize that selling those two alone wouldn`t make a huge difference in the desired debt reduction. I feel pretty sure that Andy wouldn`t be thinking about selling the Charger if it wasn`t the $$ difference maker of the three.

old man

Whatever you do get rid of those creditcards. I just refinanced the house and payed off our cards. The difference in payment on house was even lower with a lower intrest rate. Extra money saved from creditcards allows me to spend more money on cars. Hell one card had a 32% intrest rate. If we had kept making minimal payment it would taken us over ten years to pay one off. If you can find away to keep your car do it. Trying to replace at a later date would be much more expensive. Look at how cars have went up over the last five years. What do you think it will cost in five years to replace? All of us have a story of selling a car and later regretting it.

My ex-wife did me one favor in that respect. She was very bad at just didn't pay bills, and she gave me bad credit. And to be honest, I'm 100% happy with bad credit. If I don't have the cash, I don't get it. It's that simple. And I really don't have to really worry about identity theft either ^-^

Hate to see anyone have to sell their car but I understand that Family is first.  You could consolidate your cards into a loan for less interest.
