I'm starting to fall behind with technology and i'm curious to know how an ipod works.  Can i only get songs for it off the apple.com website or is there somewhere else?  Can i link it up to someones elses ipod and copy their songs?  Can i get a deck for my truck and plug in the ipod to listen durring rush hour?

You can burn your own music on to it.

I'm not quite clear on whether you need to stay with ITunes to download music. I want to say no but can't swear to it.

They have all sorts of accessories where you can plug it into a docking station with speaks at home and yes, you can set it up to play in your car.

That said, Apple has some really good deals on refurb Ipods these days. Ipod shuffles for as low as $29 and they come with a 1 year warranty.

Ipod can play regular MP3 tunes you get off the internet anywhere or make your own with a program on the computer. I have the 30gig video Ipod and the videos are MP4 format.  It crunchs things down a lot. A regular DVD movie is about 700-800meg in size when you are done. It takes a few hours to rip the movie off DVD and put it on the Ipod.  I looked at Itunes one time and they didnt really have the music I was interested in so I never bought anything from them. The Itunes is a different file format and can only be copied so many times and backed up and so on and so forth before it goes dead.

I haven't even looked at ITunes myself; I just use a plethora of MP3s that I rip off of CDs I own. Mine is in use at work a lot, though I wish I'd gotten more than a 1 gig now. A 4 gig would do nicely; I don't care to watch video on the thing.
