I found a pretty much complete 71 Charger 500 today, it is a 383 2bbl car with buckets, console, A/C which is gone except for the dash, no disks, manual brakes, power steering that is restorable. It was some sort of brown with tan interior and I think at one time it had a vinyl top but was removed. It has rallye tailights, a nice dash pad and comes with a 60's 383 and tranny and a 71 440 and tranny. The car is now red and lloks to have some normal rust on it. The quarters must have been bondoed but it was dark in the barn where I lookid at it. The underside looked good and the car looks complete. I was thinking of buying it and taking the dash pad and taillights and put it together and try to make some money back out of it. I think I have all the parts that could be missing so I dont think that would be a problem. The price isn't too high but it might be alot of work. I was just wondering if it wouldn't be too hard to sell when I get it back together. Thanks Craig

500 option really doesnt do much for the value of a 71. Of course, the tail lights look great!

Yes it is desireable....buy it

I have to agree with Bill on this one. Although, I also think it depends on personal preferance. I know I wouldn't mind one. :yesnod:

71  500 models are not any more valuable than other 71`s. Anybody tells you any different is blowing smoke up your butt.

The 500 package is just  trim package but I do like the looks of them,  If it is reasonably priced and you like it buy it.

It may be just a trim package but it is a desireable trim package.  Who woudn't like to have the R/T style tail lights, bucket seats, and center console in their car.  If you like it buy it.

I am not saying the car is not desirable, I would love to own one.  From a value point it is not a 71 R/T.  I say if you like it and can afford it by all means add it to your stable, I wish I could.

Hey nacho, that is a cool brochure pic you posted.  I have never seen anything like that before.

I guess it really depends on what you mean by "desirable". To me, ANY 71 Charger with a big block, buckets, console, and the R/T style tail lights is desirable. The original post kind of led me to believe that the real question was about its rarity or collectors status. All i was trying to imply is that the 1971 500 pkg in itself isn`t considered to be a big deal from a $$ standpoint, like a 71 R/T or Superbee.

Now that 4 speed 71 500, mentioned by Blakcharger440, would be considered rare/unique/desirable..........187 made according to the white book.

Since I'm an A body guy new to the Chargers from what I have seen Chargers are hot right now, especially the 71-74's. if the price is right snatch it up, can't go wrong.

Well I'll have to go and take another look at it in the daylight. I think it is worh the money. I think I could part it out for what he wants for it. Not thay I would do that but I don't think I would loose money over it. I really could use the dash on another car and I dig the rallye taillights too. I already have a couple sets ot extra bucket seats so I wouldn't take them out. It would be neat to make it a daily driver though. Thanks Craig

I went and loked at it again today. It looks pretty rough. Every body panel has rust bubbles and every part that is desireably is cracked or broken. I don't think it is worth it. Craig

What were they asking for it?  Did you get any pictures?
