How long is your shaft ?

Not that shaft !  YOUR DRIVESHAFT ! !

440/727 combo

I pulled the tape from the center of each U joint and mine messures 52 1/4.  This apparently is too short because the tail shaft is leaking.  Not a bad leak but still a leak.  I am quessing it needs to be 53 1/2 or 54 inches max but just wanted to get some other opinions.  Anyone you guys recommend buying a new one from ?  I'd prefer a lighter HIPO type but a stocker will do.

Thanks in advance for the help, Doug

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

Your driveshaft is the correct length; look elsewhere for the leak cause. Bad seal, grooved slip yoke, leaking soft plug in slip yoke, etc.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

The seal is new and the slip yoke is fine.  I'll give the soft plug a check....The slip yoke just doesn't seem to goreal far into the tranny so I was suspecting that the length was the problem.

You should have about 3/4" of freeplay front to back with weight on the rear.

A Dana DS is about 1" shorter than a 8 3/4 DS.   The tranny doesn't matter.

Hey Sublime69.  You may not own your sublime charger anymore (I seem to recall a thread about this) but could I ask you if the rear end in you car was a 8-3/4.   If so, it will confirm my calculations that the correct driveshaft dimension for a 440/A-833/8-3/4 car would be 52-1/4 inches center line to centerline between the front and rear u-joints.  Thanks.
