I'm looking hard at a 73 340 Rallye Charger, auto, AC, OE paint with no rust but needs paint, new interior, new parts. Nice driver. Not much to go on but WIW? Thanks. Tony

#'s matching?
Check the auction completed section on ebay. Since it's the Rallye package i'd say 3-4k.

It is numbers matching, running, driving, looking good from 10-15ft. It's an AZ car and needs a repaint though. (There goes my OE paint.) I'll try to attach a pic. Tony  It won't let me.

Old car trader has a #3 car, sounds like your description at $6,500 #2 what you could make it @ $8,500.  I bought a 73 rallye U code car (440) with a 72 air grabber hood for $7,500.  The hood is worth about $1500 I would say the rest of the car is worth about $5000, so I got beat up to the tune of about 1k.  Lets just say the car was not exactly as described.  Still a fun car to drive and will be nice when I finish.  My advice, what ever the price check the car out in person before you buy.

I have to say guys you are so amazing how some of you pull down the price for a while market is going up.

being 340 a Rallye on 73 by default and 340 last year ( even detuned ), prices are close to 440s Rallyes, not the same but certainly close.

A perfectly restored Rallye with BB is stated at Nada guides, is around $20K, and rolling but needing minor restore job around $10 as far I remember, maybe little bit more if is original A/C equipped.

IF REALLY NEEDS just paint and some minor touchs NEVER would say less than $10K, in fact, as stated by wedgeheaded, close to $15, but hard to say without pics.

Since it's #'s matching I'll go to 6k maybe.
Without any pics or a detailed description of the car I'm going to assume the worst. Anytime you shoot from the hip you usually end up shooting yourself in the foot.
I'd rather go low than say 10k with out any pics of the car and later find out it needed an additional 5k of work besides the new paint job. I've been given bad advice in the past by people who supposedly knew what they were talking about (not here).

I wish I could get a pic up but they're too large. I'm going to mail myself the pics to my home PC and do a little photo editing to make them an uploadable size. I know what it's worth if it's not what it's supposed to be, but what if it is? That's what I'm trying to figure out. It's a 6 hr drive for me to look at it. If I go to look I'm taking cash and a trailer. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the trip. I'm assuming it's all it's said to be. However, there's no need of me looking if the seller has his head in the clouds on it's value. That's where I'm at on it.

NADA guides are a complete waste of time. Consider their source.......National Auto Dealers Association. Seems like a conflict of interest to me. No wonder their values are always very high.  ::)

Personally, i would not place a huge premium on the 340 engine. More than a 318 car... definitely. more than a 400 2bbl.... questionable, more than a 400 4bbl.... not to me, more than a 440 4 bbl...no way.

I was going to post some completed auctions from ebay as a comparison but i didnt find any comparable cars that actually sold. To me that would be an indication that the sellers are feeling pretty $$ proud of their 73/74`s but the buyers as a whole really arent paying those prices.

Nacho-RT74

Well I never said more than 440, but certainly close ;D and yes, maybe I think same as a 400 4bbls with almost same HPs and lighter engine. Only way to get a 340 as far I know was on a Rallye, with sloted machine guns tips and exhaust cut outs on rear valence as part of equippment, and those details makes them some worthly

I'm agree about without pics is hard to say, but since it's being said new interior and parts. Interior parts are really headaches IMHO beside the quarter rust, thinking about repro pieces are not the best that they can be.

I know normally I go higher than several ppl here but 6K looks pretty a insult I think, specially compairing with counterparts Phords and Chebbys actual prices.

A pic. I have a good front shot but it's the wrong format and won't upload. This gives you an idea though. This is the worst side.

I would guess he's asking around $12,000.  He probably dropped his pirce and the car is located in Brighton/Milford, Michigan area.  Am I right?  I think it is.  I have seen it at many car shows.  He's been trying to sell it for a while.

You're close. Highland, MI. Do you know the car well? I'm gambling that a 340 Rallye car will go up in value, enough to justify the new paint anyway. Tony

Tony,

Yes I know the car.  Highland is right next to Milford.  I know the car well.

I'm saying $8000 tops and I'm being generous. The values of the 3rd Gens aren't there yet except for the R/T's, Super Bees, and the 72 Rallyes, all depending on the engine option. And anyone that uses the NADA price guide should buy a new Creeder Charger because they are clueless.  ::)

I am a 3rd gen owner and I can agree to that. I just sold my 73' SE for $8000 and bought a Rally. The guy I sold the SE is now trying to sell it for $11,000. I told the punk that I got top dollar out of him. I do feel that the BB Rallys are worth more tha SE's from 73'.
