I'm going to mill my heads on this 440 .060 & run a steel shim gasket, comp should be around 9.1, these are the 2 i'm looking at.

Summit, 465/488-224/234 @ 50, 114 LSA   2200-5000

Comp, XE268H, 477/480-224/230 @ 50, 110 LSA  1800-5800

What i like about the summits is the price of coarse, but i'm thinking the comp would work better in the low to mid-range.

440, .030 over, 3700 lbs, stock conv.(for now), headers, 355s.

id go with the comp if it was me,   but they are agressive cams  and will need the correct valve springs

71 roadrunner 452 e heads  11.35@119 mph owned sence 1984
72 panther pink satellite sebring plus 383 727
68 satellite 383 4 speed  13.80 @ 102 mph  my daily driver
69 superbee clone 440    daughters car
72 dodge dart swinger slant six

:iagree: The xe268 is a better choice with the stock converter and 3.55's. The Comp 911 springs work fine with that grind. The xe's have quick ramps but nowhere near as agressive as the xehl high lift cams which are ground for a .904 lifter. The 110* lsa will help it build cylinder pressure earlier than the wider 114* Summit cam will and it will hit harder at the sweet spot.  :yesnod:

Agreed... mostly but I have a 383 .060 over headers single plane and 770cfm carb and I went with the comp cams 230/236@50 cam it is a little rough at idle, but still gives great mid range and upper rpm power... I would have actually preferred the next step up as I am switching from 3.23 to 3.91 gears...long story short unless its a company that actually builds cams for mopar engines I would go higher rather than the old saying "If you can't decide between two cams choose the smaller one"

Oh almost forgot this cam did not affect my power brakes at all and is totally streetable even though I was told it would limit my cars streetability. By the way I switched to the 230/236 duration from a 218/218 cam.

I was also thinking of this cam, are you using stamped rockers with it? i think it should be pretty tame in a 440, i do have PB & there definately staying along with the PS, i won't it to be a cruiser with some grunt.

My buddy bought a 70 dart with a 360, 9.1 comp., 1800 stall, 391s & it had that comp cam, that sucker would scream :o, & the cam was pretty mild i think, on 205/75/14s it ran 103 in the 1/4 :icon_smile_big:

I have a hughes cam lying around, its there 530 lift & 228 dur. @ 50, i've thought about using it, but i just put the head back on today, i'm just going to leave it stock, right now i don't really feel like jacking with stuff on it, i have a bad habit of not leaving well enough alone ;D, i'll just put some more gear to it, that should help alot.

Hughes used to deal with Engle but not anymore , Engle still has all the old Hughes grinds & are far better to deal with

I talked with engle the other day, he told me not to expect much gain in performance, because i would be limited on cams with the low comp. now if i raise the comp, i will have a wider choice for a decent cam, but to make it really shine, i would need a better then stock stall & gears.

Whats confusing is all the different stories i get for cam choice with low compression ???. The guy at engle told me to stay in the 210* @ 50, that upper 220s, low 230s will be overkill, & to get something with a 108-110 LSA, not 112-114  :-\, he also told me the larger summit cam is way too much, it seems like this guy knows what he's talking about, but others tell me a 112-114 helps build cyl. pressure, he said nope, thats wrong, thats why i've decided to leave well enough alone, engle & others agreed. unless i raise the comp. don't expect much...

I would like to hear your thoughts even though i'm not going this route :icon_smile_wink:

i currently am running the larger summit cam that you described in a 9 to 1 440,and although my new one will be a lot more agressive,i cant really complain-pretty decent mild street cam for the money, and it came with the current engine i have in the car.i ran around with 2.94s and a 2000 stall for a while, and it was decent,if a little sluggish out of the hole, but i just swapped in 3.55s and a 2500 stall and it woke up quite a bit!if you are on a tight budget i wouldnt disount the summit cam,but you can spend a little more and end up with a lot better grinds :yesnod:

I did a 8:1 383 a couple of years ago , he didn`t want to do the short block we used a small cam , K52 if I recall with ported heads , stock intake & exhuast manifolds & the performance was very good / surprising for the short stroke low comp engine it was , it would light the tires hard into second gear with only 3.23 gearing
