Hello all, been tinkering around with a thumbwheel radio i got for the car. Baught it used and not working, and is still used and not working. Most of the components seem pretty straight foward as far as the resisistors, capacitors... go. There is one though that i cant seem to find new, forgive my butchering of the name of it but i'm not a radio expert, the closest thing i can think of is a variable capacitor. It is the black cylindrical piece, three prongs going into the board, has 1000MF4V on one side and 50MF4V on the other as well as a #1 and #2 on the sides and some other numbers that look like part numbers that are in sequence with some other components of the radio. This piece has a fine hairline crack running down one side of it so i'm assuming that is no good, any body ever buy these and where from.? And before i make one, does any body make the circuit boards for these radios?
Maybe tomorow i'll hook the thing up to an antenna, got it buzzing anyway today, it wasnt making any noise before. Only the light would come on.

before making anything, I would try to score a couple of junkers.  nice ones are big bucks, but you could probably get one that looks trashed for a reasonable price.

I know you are Mrfixit but if I were you I'd just send it to Wards Classic Radio and let them totally rebuild it to better than new for $115 exchange.

I agree with Bull.  I had them do mine and they did a real good job.  If you do a search on the site you will find the necessary contact information in a previous thread.

That seems pretty reasonable. Didnt plan on putting that much money into the radio just yet, maybe if it were the original correct one, or even a am/fm. I guess too, i just like seeing and knowing how something works and goes together, and challenging my self with something new.  Did snag another cheap radio, just waiting for it to get here. Now i'll have two that don't work :icon_smile_big: Thanks for the input
