So I've recently gotten into smoking Cigars. I tryed cigarettes when i was a kid in high school, but i never liked smoking. now i'm statrig to get a tast for cigars. I've been buying them one at a time and smoking them with in a few days of buying them. I'd like to get a humidor so i can keep some cigars around. I've tryed just keeping them in a zip-lock bag, but i can tell the diffrence between the day old cigar and the weeks old one. since i'm new to this i thought i'd ask if anyone knows about humidors. what should i look for when buying one and what makes one better then another.

Just getting into cigars myself.

Definitely interested in hearing some responses on this question.

Where do you get your cigars from?

I'm stuck out in the sticks, so as a result I've tried out Cigar.com.

You might check 'em out.

So far I've only bought a couple samplers, but I'm getting a feeling for what I like.

I really really hate cigarette smoke and all that goes with smoking cigarettes  but I do like a cigar on ocassion.  Cuban or hand rolled Dom. Republic cigars are all really good. Nat Sherman has a nice selection of cigars to buy. As for the humidor get one that maintains the humidity. Usually has a small little deal that holds liquid for maintaining. Also  get a humidor that will hold the size and amount of cigars you think you want to keep around. Get a small unit and longer cigars wont fit. You can spend anywhere from 50$ to 500$ for a humidor. Ebay has lots of them. Good place to look and get an idea.

If you are out of the good cigars some duscount store variety cigars arent too bad.  Dutch Masters makes a President and a Panetela that arent too bad for being cheap. If you are in the right mood a swisher sweet isnt bad but after you smoke a few fine cigars  they actually suck.   King Edwards are garbage! Even 01 wouldnt smoke a King Edward! HAHA!

I hate cigars.

They smell like sweaty ass.  I'd rather smoke a turd.

I have traveled all over the world and have witnessed some of the nastiest habits there are to be witnessed and I'll tell you right now, I rank cigar smoking in the top five.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Don't even want to know how you know what a sweaty a$$ smells like?

I've had decent cigars that were stored in the smaller table top humidors, I think you can add water or something to it to keep the cigars moist. But that's the most of my knowledge, I buy them and try to smoke them right away.

Cigar bars are getting big, I've been to some nice ones in Fresno, Chicago, New York, Denver and Philadelphia they have a nice setting to sit and smoke your cigars and have a drink.

I personally like the Ashton Cigars they are really good............

i get my cubans through Israel . any time my wife's family come to visit, they bring me a couple of boxes of them. they pay $40 a box at the duty free at the Israel airport . I'm surprised that customs doesn't take them from them at the American airport .
the 50 cent cigars that i smoke are called avanti . they are from pa and have an amaretto taste to them. they go great with beer  :D

Rene, that is one of my problems. I got myself a tin of Tatiana Rum Flavored cigars (small cigerette sized). i can smoke 3 of them before i'm done. so i got some long ones. i can only smoke 2/3 of that before i'm done. i haven't found the right cigar for me... i've smoked some non flavored ones and its hit or miss if i like them. some taste really good and some are very acid tasting. i supose i need to just drop some money into finding the right ones.

You are a lucky dude!  I have always heard  customs will let you bring 2 cubans per person back if you go on a cruise or something to Mexico or the various islands down south. I always have people bring me back some cubans when they take trips.

I've found that a robusto (5x52/54) seems to be the perfect length for me.

I picked up a sampler of Cusano cigars, and really like 'em so far.

Also have a Macanudo (sp?) sampler, but haven't checked them out yet.

They sell cubans in Canada, I had some Romeo and Julieta from Cuba they are good but I have had better like Ashtons and some that are Dominican. But it depends on your tastes, I like a smooth cigar like a Romeo and Julieta they are smooth. I am not a fan of the Cohibas too strong for my tastes.

There are many cigars from the Dom. Republic that are very good.  I have one Cohiba left in my stash. I had several varietys a few years back that were very good. When it takes at least an hour to smoke a cigar you know its good.  Since I dont smoke otherwise and I dont smoke cigars daily  I feel like I am about 100feet tall when I am done smoking a cigar! HEHE!

Shakey

I enjoy a cigar once in a while and have had many different types.  One of the other fellows on the sales team has taught me a bit about cigars during our travels.

The Trilogy Exotic Maduro Torpedo is a great and affordable cigar.  It has a nice draw and burns evenly with a rich but mild flavour.  The size is 6 1/4 X 52.  These are from Honduras.

There is a restaurant here in the Toronto area, Mississauga to be more precise, called La Castile Steak House and prior to the smoking ban earlier this year, one could enjoy a great steak dinner and a fine cigar afterwards.  This is a favourite place of ours to take our customers when they are in town visiting.  The price tag for each cigar in the piano bar is $30.00 CDN.   :scared:

There is a place in MO I found and they sell the same cigar for about $5.00 USD each.   :yesnod:  I guess the mark up on cigars in restaurants is similar to what they do with wine.   ::)

Another one that I like is called Avo # 2.  A bit more pricey but also a very enjoyable mild and rich cigar.  The size is 6 X 50.  These are Dominican.  They run about $8.00 USD a piece.  The first time I had one of these was at the Red Head Piano Bar in Chicago and I had many drinks that night so I can recall how much we paid for them.

Now I don't smoke cigars on a regular basis and when I do purchase a few I simple keep them in a zip lock bag with a moist paper towel.  They are OK for about a month.

Definitely check out the R&J's.  The Churchills are my favorites.

Churchills are very nice , there's a big place up here by us , J&R CIGARS, They aways have a cigar of the week for !/2 price . i use to go every couple of weeks and pick some  up . that was cool cause i got to smoke a lot of cigars that i never heard of. another cool thing about this place is the the whole place is a humidor . if you look up in the rafters , they have humidifiers blowing at all times.  Rene

I get my cigars from  www.thompsoncigar.com   alot of times you can get a good deal on sampler packs with a humidor  and decide from the sampler which you prefer.

I prefer the churchill in a #50  and i have to have a maduro wrapper instead of the conneticut one they offer. its a dark wrap and it burns  rather well.
I got hooked on one there brands called toro toro   you get 75 of them for $69.

I have also smoked cohibas and really liked them however the way i smoke cigars they are a  little costly for the real ones .

I have three different  humidors which hold various amounts . one is called the lucky seven it holds about 200 of them  you can sometimes get a package deal through thompson cigar where you get both thehumidor and several cigars for a decent price.

I have one callled the weekender which holds about 50 and a small one that was purchased at a local smoke shop it holds about 25.

I persoanlllay smoke way too many cause i like to try and keep them all filled and i just cant do it.

I was given a nice humidor and prometheus lighter from my brother and his bride for a present.  It's great smoking a cigar.  I actually don't mind the smell.  I prefer it over cigarettes any day.  There are many cigar stores around my area that have excellent humidors.  I prefer buying mine from there.  I would have to say that Romeo& Julieta's have been my choice of cigars.

Make sure you are on with your humidor and never neglect your cigars.  Of course, you never want to get your cigars moldy or dry them out.

I do enjoy the cigar bars, smoking a cigar on the golf course and black tie affairs...lately been taking them to the car shows.

I do have a variety of cigars in my Humidor from:  Cohiba, Davdioffs, Avo, Montecristos, Cuesta Rey, Cao, and even dipped flavored cigars.

Also know the etiquette and correct ways in smoking a cigar.  If you really want to get into it, go to your local bookstore.  There is an excellent magazine called, "Cigar Aficionado."

Nothing but fancy for me! HAHAHA!   Cant wait for it to get here and get it setup. I am curious to see how the cigars are. I hope they are decent units to enjoy. This stash should last me a few years with no more then I smoke cigars.

Got my humidor last night and the cigars today. Was following the instructions on getting the humidor juiced up and was wondering what to expect on maintaining the humidor. How often do you have to fill it up to keep the humidity at a good level? I dont smoke much so I wont be opening it very much. With the cigars I got it will take me 2 years to get thru them all smoking 1 a week unless my buddys come over! HAHA!

Got everything setup tonight with the new humidor.  Hopefully I did it right. Followed the directions wiped the inside and let it sit empty to bring the humidy up. I assumed you put the cigars in without the plastic wrappers.
