I was just thinking the other day of when I get my charger, how much is the insurance going to be? I cant imagine that a male aged 18-25 with an american muscle car registered to his name cannot be at all good for the cost of insurance lol but Im just wondering what some of yall pay. I know some factors are age and how many cars you got but still. Then my buddy said if you have a Class A license then it brings down the insurance significantly, or is that just an insurance specific policy?

It all depends on what type of insurance you get for your car.  If it is collectors insurance, they sometimes limit the mileage and specify that it can not be a daily driver.   I know for our insurance company, you had to be over teh age of 25 in order to be on the policy.

terrible one

So tell me guys, what would be the best route for a 16 year old male to take? I could put it under my dad's name under regular insurance of course, but then if I get hit I'm basically not going to get nearly what the car is worth, right?

damn looks like im shit outta luck on this one for awhile, but now that i think about it, im not gonna worry about it at this point in time. because right now i cant afford to buy it but in a year in a half was when i was planning on buying it but then i also may go into basic combat training for the army and have to wait a little longer and then when i do get it ill need to do some serious work to engine and body before its ready to go and to do all that on top of college and everything would probably stretch the time out until im about 25 years old to even drive it everyday, but i was just curious to see what some people pay for the insurance

im 23, single, and own a 74 charger with a 440 in it, and my insurance isnt all that bad. I've got full coverage agreed value, and I pay right around 300 bucks every 6 months. But I also have my buick, my caravan, my dakota, my d150, my bronco, and my taurus through the same company.State Farm treats me pretty good. But I also got a little slip of paper in the mail which says "record clear" which made my rates go down quite abit. For everything I'm paying less than 850  every 6 months for all 7 vehicles. Which really isnt all that bad.

damn mopar guy...that's great!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL damn i pay almost $750 a year for my harley alone!!!!!!!!!!!! but then again it's also worth $30K+!!!! but as far as my ram & my daily driver hyundai(don't laugh!! 35mpg!!!) it's about $800/yr for both!?!?!? yea...ins rates suck!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

If you're not putting a ton of miles on your car each year or driving it daily (I don't know anyone who drives their 60's/70's muscle car DAILY), then collector car insurance is the way to go.
I've had 2 of my cars since I was in my teens (I'm now in my mid-30's, damn I'm freakin' OLD!). My parent's helped me a bit back then by putting the cars in their name. When I was a little older, they were signed off to me.
I have my Chargers insured thru American Collector's, they have been extremely good.

Well I was planning on having the Charger, and then a not so good car like the on I have right now to drive on the days that its raining/snowing out. So it wouldnt be daily and it would definitely be a lot less driving it during the wintertime because here in Minnesota its always crappy outside in the wintertime, weatherwise.

moparguy01

uh where in minnesota? cause if its minneapolis you might not want to drive that car even semi daily. charger tend to make targets for theft.

myk

When I was 16 I balked at the amount of money it would cost to insure me.  "Don't worry" State Farm told me, as my mom was paying for it anyway and besides, when I got older, like 21 or so, then my rates would go down a little.  21 rolls around eventually and with no tickets/accidents I didn't get a rate reduction. Again they tell me that when I get older, say 25, then my rates will go down.  25 rolls around and I'm still looking at the same rates.  Don't worry they tell me, as soon I turn 30 or so it'll be better because that's the golden age for young drivers and besdies, I'll probably be married by then and my rates will REALLY go down.

I'm 31 now, my rates haven't really changed, competing insurance agencies can't do any better and I haven't made the mistake of  getting married so I'm convinced that age has little to do with insurance rates...

actually just north of st paul in the maplewood/north st paul area. but im not gonna be living there when i get it, ill be living down in Mankato because thats where ill be going to college. lol i dont need to be reminded of theft from cars because i have seen it happen all over the place even at my school i see busted out windows here and there every couple weeks. but when i get it ill be having it in a garage -- me and my buddies are gonna rent a duplex or something and i shottied the garage right away and if they try to park in there then ill make them move it but yeah. and ill just not have it insured until its in good shape and i can afford it. i still have other things to worry about right now than this
