looking to get an engine torque strap for my 71' charger with a 360, is this the correct one? http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/bentost.html or are there better/cheaper ones on the market. thats the only one ive seen so far. although it seems like something i could make myself with the right tools.... :ahum:

Does the 71 have biscuit mounts....or spool mounts. If it has the biscuit mounts then the fix is easy....no torque strap required   :icon_smile_big:

I am not sure about the third gen chargers, but don't some torque straps require a different power steering pump bracket?  I remember reading that somewhere.

deathcharger71

hhmmm i do have power steering so i should figure that out before.

i have this torque strap on my 71 roadrunner, no drilling  no issues with powersteering.   the 2 holes in the k frame are the same holes that are used for the front swap bar on a 71 car.

well thats good news   ;D

deathcharger71

i just got the torque strap and it hits the power steering big time  :icon_smile_angry: theres no way it will fit, so i guess i have to get A body power steering brackets?

Did you get the correct small block one?

mancini only offers one, its universal and has different ways to configure it to fit both big and small block and different converstions. it hits a tube thats right behind the power steering pump on mine, may have something to do with the fact that its a 318/360 swap....ill figure it out tomorrow.

I've got the same problem on my magnum smallblock 68 with March brackets.  I guess it is a good thing I just bought another car, so I can use it on there.  I will also be doing the firefighter mod for my motor mounts.

deathcharger71

i got it to fit  ;D i just had to toss the directions and go by trial and error, the recommended small block installation wouldnt work at all. it is up against that small metal power steering tube, but not pressing too hard. ill just have to wait and see if that tube cracks or brakes, until then im happy with the torque strap, this is the first time my whole car has leened to the right instead of just my engine!
