I've got a huge stack of old home videos going back 20 years or more, and I'm thinking it's probably time to sort them out/edit/title them....while I'm still technically adept enough to pull it off.
What I need is a good computer program to do this.
Has anybody any suggestions, or advice as to which program is best? ???
And how much memory space is neccesary to accomplish this? (ie: minutes of tape time ~ megs of space)
Thanks.

I know there are companies that can do it for you which is usually alot easier with less stress. Another way is to use a VCR hooked up to a DVD player with DVD writing capabilites. Not sure of a computer program though, sorry.

You can get a stand alone unit that records straight to dvd's for a few hundred bucks.  Paying someone to do it would cost too much for a huge stack of tapes.  I have all the equipment at work to make dvd's using computers and I wouldnt go through that for home movies and stuff, it simply isnt worth the time involved.  Here is a for instance...

usually these machines are really easy to operate, also

I use dvd xpress, bought it a t wal mart for $77.  works great, just hook up a vcr to the box and record to your computer and then burn the disc.  You can make custom menus and everything

Thanks for the input guys.
I went on eBay after reading these responses, and bought a Sony RDR-VX530 VHS to DVD recorder, which I had no idea actually existed prior to this thread!
Anyhow, I guess I'll be transferring most everything I've got, 8mm and VHS included.
