I'm currently using a Fel-Pro with a steel core, but I'm always wondering what others prefer to use.

What's SBC?  I know Small Block Chevy won't fit.  ;)   Anyone using the special bolts like Stage 8 locking or similar?

I had a set of solid copper gaskets on it before and they were utter crap.  They were a different brand though (Mr. Gasket maybe????).

I've used fe pro or mr. gasket ultraseal.

It's more a question of flat surfaces, etc. to prevent blowouts... to me, that means good TTI headers or something similar with thick flanges, etc.  I also use studs where possible instead of header bolts.

Agreed.  But for the moment I have to work with what I have.

Like I said, I had bad luck with copper.  Only one experience with it so far though.

i used  copper on my satellite's 440. on the headers and collectors, worked well. about 2yrs now and the headers and collectors are old and alittle crusty. thats why i used copper. to help seal the imperfections.  Rene

Percy's dead soft aluminum....pricy but work great and they're reusable. The mr. gasket ultraseals also work well. With any gasket i usually smear both sides with ultra copper (high temp) permatex and just snug them down....let it cure overnight and tighten up the next day. They need retorquing after the first couple of heat cycles as well.
