Rewiring The Alternator

Hello, I need to redo the field wires on my dual field alternator as they are in bad shape.  Is it ok if I use wire that is bigger in gauge than what is stock?  I may have to rewire other areas too and plan to use bigger gauge wire would this be ok?  I'm not sure if there will be voltage/lower resistance issues.

Also I was wondering if anyone knew of a diagram that showed the bare minimum electrical system needed to start and run the engine and charge the battery?  A simple one that isolated the engine's ignition system from the accessories and all that stuff?

Any hints or help appreciated

A heavier than stock gauge wire is fine.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Thanks Plumcrazy!  71 Deputy, I saw that that thread, but thought it was only about upgrades?  Though running a parallel wire off the alternator to the ammeter, then to the stater relay could probably be a good thing even in my case.  I am runnung a 45 amp alternator.  Thanks again

WELCOME if your gonna increase the amps out of the alt- you need to beef up the main wiring too.

here is a simple diagram of the simple wiring
