53oz can of pork and beans   :scared:

I don't think I've ever seen a can of anything that size.  Some recipes I use call for 28oz cans of tomato's and that is a mighty large can itself.

Does sound yummy, but not a good idea if you plan on taking a girl out that night!

Hey Kelly! This stuff is awsome!!! I finally made it today for me and my oldest son. It is YUMMY!!!! :2thumbs: I added a little more onions and cheese though, but I'll definatly make this again :yesnod:

NOTE; After topping it with the biscuits and cheese, it took more like 20 minutes to get them golden brown. But well worth the wait.

NOW for some beer :D

I made this last night and it tastes great but mine came out a little soupy on the bottom.   Maybe it could have stayed in the oven longer than 25 minutes before putting on the bisquits and cheese  :shruggy:  Opinions?    It was about 15 minutes till the bisquits pieces were on the verge of burning so that's when I pulled it.    Closest I found to 53 was 55 oz can of Bush's baked beans.

I'm not sure what kind of bisquits were meant to be used...  I had some store brand buttermilk Grands variety and I only used up about 5 of them and I cut them into 8 sections each and just dropped them on top.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the leftovers will be gone soon!

I thought for the next time I might try a lattice top using croissant roll dough strips instead of round bisquits.  :scratchchin:  Lisa mentioned using dough on top and bottom making a redneck shepherd's pie.  :smilielol:

When I made mine, it wasn't runny at all. Did you use a generic Pork & Beans that normally are a little watery, or Baked Beans? I used Busches Baked Beans with onions, on top of the oinions I added. We LOVE oinions here!

Used Bushes baked beans original.     I used most of a large vidalia and some 90/10 ground sirloin that I drained after browning.       :shruggy:

Maybe it just needed 5 or 10 more minutes or maybe I should have set the oven on convection instead  :scratchchin:

Hey Brian, I made it again tonight, and I think I might know why yours was a little runny on the bottom. When you made yours, did you drain the grease after frying the hamburger? I didn't this time cause there wasn't much, but it was a tad runny too on the bottom anyway. So, I know the next time I WILL drain the grease after frying the hamburger. I also modified the recipe a little, and it tasted better to me and my son.

Modified version; (I used BLUE to show the changes)

2 lbs. ground beef
1 med. onion, chopped
1/3 cup brown sugar OR (3/4 cup white sugar) I used white sugar as it too will caramelise. I used a little more sugar too.
3/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 large can (53 oz. or close) Baked Beans
2 tubes biscuits (unbaked)
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Directions:
Brown ground beef with onions; drain. Combine beef mixture with brown sugar, barbecue sauce, and beans. Put mixture in a 9 x 13 in pan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Sprinkle top with 2 cups cheese. Take whole biscuts & place on top of beef and beans so it is covered. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup cheese. Continue baking until biscuits are done & golden brown (about 20 minutes).

Yes I'm sure I drained it but I think that it's just a deal with timing - maybe I should have baked it a few minutes longer or used the convection setting to make sure the mixture is thoroughly bubbly before taking it out the first time.    It was only about 15 minutes till the biscuits were brown so I have to make up the time before adding the top.

Lisa passed the recipe onto the neighbors and they made it last night but I didn't actually hear if it was runny or not.   I know she said they liked it a lot.
