Saddam, co-defendants sentenced to hang

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein was convicted Sunday and sentenced to hang for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killings of 148 people in a single Shiite town.

The ousted leader, trembling and defiant, shouted "God is great!" as the judge handed down the verdict.

Saddam, his half brother and another senior official in his regime were convicted and sentenced to death by the Iraqi High Tribunal in one of the most highly publicized war crimes trials since the Nuremberg tribunals for members of Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime and its slaughter of 6 million Jews in the World War II Holocaust.

Sadly he has the right to appeal the death sentance which means for another year he'll be in and out of courts... but I'm sure the appeal won't do shit to help him!

Actually the way I understand it, the appeals court doesn't have to look at the appeal right away.  They have an unlimited time to keep the appeal on hold, all the while Saddam sits in prison.  So if that court sympathizes with him they can just not review the appeal and saddam stays alive.  Cool huh?

From what I understand, it automatically goes to a 9 judge appeals court. The court had unlimited time to hear and review the case, however if the verdict is upheld, then he'll be hung within 30 days of that proceeding. Understandable, for a real person, though with Saddam he revoked his status as a human being, and thus shouldn't be covered under any international laws.

The US should do the same, give one appeal, then if the verdict is upheld then 30 days. Don't let the suckers hang around for 30 years making appeal after appeal, to have it overturned when all the witnesses are dead and the evidence has all been stolen from storage by their lawyers.

Actually you really need to read your history.  If Carter had nipped this in the butt when the ayatollah took over iran we may have stymied it then.  Clinton was/is way more responsible for the US losing it's credibility than Bush ever has.  While willie was getting his willie wet, terrorists bombed our embassies, our warships and allies. But Willie was more interested in Monica than actually doing something about these flagrant acts of war against the UNITED STATES.  Sorry to say this but if you think the democrats will do any better, you might as well hang yourself.  Cause the democraps will only allow the so-call "religion of peace" to take over this country and destroy everthing we love about what is America, including our beloved Mopars............
