That's hard.  Puts a lot of stress on a guy with a wife and two children.  Hope you find something quick.  Good Luck.

What kind of engineer were you?

What's make in the US besides Hondas and Toyotas?

Anyway, best of luck with your job search. I hope you find something you enjoy doing. Did they give you a nice severance package at least?

Mike,
If you don't mind rain most of the year you could consider moving out to the NW and trying to get a job here at Boeing.
There looking for good engineers at the moment.

Just a tip. Don't count on a 20 year career with them either though. There offloading jobs like there was no tomarrow. To the Russians for the most part. Who knows how much longer I'll be there because of this fact.

What's make in the US besides Hondas and Toyotas?

Not many. :rotz:
According to this list, there aren't many US automaker models at all that are made of even 90% American made parts.

Check out the Scion's, Suzuki's & certain models of Honda, Toyota & such...100% foreign made on some/most models. The # of foreign made models on the '06 list is even more...and we Americans are snapping them up as fast as they feed them to us. :icon_smile_angry:

Sorry to hear that and, as someone else mentioned, I hope that you got a decent severance package.

As someone who went through it, plant closed after 16 years with the company, found another job in 3 months and then whacked again a year later, I can tell you that things do work out.

I ended up starting my own biz, running that for 2 years, and then selling it and getting another position paying almost twice what I was making prior.

My advice, look outside your comfort zone. I had a hi-tech background and ended up in bio-tech. No more pc and servers, thank god.

I think that the auto industry and hi-tech have much of the same issues, it's either wine and roses or the whole industry is in the shitter and letting people go.

Good luck.

Make's you wonder about the future of our country.Wish you the best for you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your impending lay-off,..
i though everyone knew the "domestic" industry was in the decline...
I just dodged (sorry) the same fate last year at this time,..
it's kinda' hit and miss with the jobs these days, whole industries are being flushed in the name of shareholder profits.. used to be steel now it's the automakers them selves... but,..
some folks who are unaffected are ok with that...
It makes me sad and i could sure use a hug from Daytonalo...
