Won't go into reverse!

Morning Guys

Last week I was moving her off the drive.   She went into reverse okay - then forward okay - I was a little heavy on the brakes and jolted to a stop - and then she wouldn't go into reverse - it was as if she was in neutral.  I checked under the car and found the three wires that go into the transmission just hanging down - no sign of the connector.

I fitted a new connector this morning and the problem remains - She's fine in Drive; 1 and 2, but reverse is like neutral.

I had the transmission rebuilt a couple of years ago - so what's the problem - is it the transmission or the wiring?  Help?

Advice gratefully received.

Cheers, Tim

First ..check to verify proper fluid level....in neutral............ If it drives ok in 1,2+3 u have a broken rear band and or strut,or the seal on the rear pistion blew. Also if the seal in the front drum blew=no reverse+no 3rd gear.............This is on a 727 or 904 auto.

wiring running up to tranny has nothing to do with mechanical job. Wiring is just signals to send ground to starter relay and start on back up lamps.

I'm agree with oldkimmer

Thanks guys - looks like a visit to a transmission specialist is on order.  More expense!

It's worth the effort to pull the pan, like ok said it might be a band strut or seal that can be fixed without major disassembly or expenditure.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks John - I'll keep my fingers crossed it's not a big job - but I always fear the worst!
