Pretty much got myself into them.  I've loved cars ever since I was a kid.  I can remember that many of my favorite cars and body styles were Dodges and Plymouths, and later even Chryslers.  My favorite of all was the Charger.

I drove G.M. for several years initially because my family drove them.  I started getting into the real cars shortly after I started my job, and found my current Charger.  I've been hooked ever since.

Brock,
Yup, looked like that one.  Another pic of one at the Charger get together in Washington a few years back.  I thought my old car had come back from the dead.  Had the same wheel covers and everything except the R/T badging and white bumblebee stripe.

A drive in a brand new 1968 Hemi Charger - R4/white/white/727/3.55. Going to a company picnic. About a 15 mile drive and the owner knew I had lots of drives in our next door neighbor's vettes. Real 'vettes, actual L88s in two of them. So he wanted to give a drive to remember. The sound and wail and frantic pitch of the hemi nearing redline has stuck with me to this day. I got a 1968 road runner in 1970 and dropped the driveline from a wrecked 1969.5 Super Bee into it and never looked back. Every real[/b] car I have owned since then has been a hi-po Mopar.

It's genetic.... my Dad went to work for a Dodge dealer in 1961 and worked for one other Dodge dealer until he retired in '92. Had in succession brand new '62, '63, and '64 Polara convertibles; followed by a '66 and '68 Coronet 500. I was hooked as soon as I could hang out at the shop with him. September was always an exciting time, 'cuz that was when the new cars came out.

I grew up a Phord and GM guy.

I remember being brainwashed by some old friends from high school. it was "Chevy or chit!" I aquired a '69 Chevelle SS 396 in '84 for $900.00. I thought that nothin' could touch me.......

we liked to cruise State St. in the heart of Salt Lake City back in the 80's. I remember that street being chuck full of muscle cars, Heavy Metal music and teenie boppers everywhere you looked. we'd race from light to light all night long. I got my ass handed to me by a beautiful black '69 383 Charger consistantly. there was only a few Chargers, Road Runners, Challengers and 'cudas back then, but they always stood out from the zillions of typical Chevys and Rustangs. slowly, I started to fall in love with these MOPARS, but would never admit it to anyone.

one day (around '87 or so), an old girlfriend of mine had a younger 15 yr. old brother, who brought home a '68 Plymouth Road Runner in pieces on a car hauler. said he was gonna have his Auto Mechanics shop class restore it. by the end of the school year, it was finished. what a beautiful cruiser! Gun Metal grey, 383, 3 spd. one bright, sunny morning, he asked me if I wanted to go for a spin.......

I've never looked back at GM or Phord since (except for the few fading off in the distance in my rear view).

well its easy, for me growing up as a kid I watch the Dukes on Saturday mornings, I always like the charger design and didn't know what the General Lee was, I was looking for a charger about 7 years ago just before the Dukes of Hazzard came out on VHS. My late mother ordered the 1st VHS from CH and about a week later she recived it in the mail, I got to looking at the back of the cover and there it mention that the General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger, my late father was into Fords more though LOL. When I found my car he said it was a nice pick but maybe to big for me! Nea! LOL. My mom had a friend of hers one take her and I into town in a Trans Am and from that time (I was younger) I was hook on those kind of cars, love the engine sound also. The rest is history.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

My Uncle, a Chevy guy of all things, bought a '68 Dart Swinger.....the looks of it blew me away.....I was 10.  end of story.

I was born. That's what got me into it.  :icon_smile_big:

My grandfather has had many, many classic cars. Inluding a '68 Roadrunner, 440 magnum, dual 4 barrel carbs, backed by an auto. My mom owned a '69 Coronet, a '73 Coronet, and a '79 Chrysler LeBaron (M body car, 318) when we got back from Guam where I was born. Along the way, my dad has owned a number of Dodge trucks for work. Plus my brother's Duster, several more Dodge trucks, and some lesser Mopars like that K car he had that threw a rod.

My first car was a Mopar, I have one Mopar now to restore, and my favorite truck was a Mopar. I do drive GM now, but that's because the Chrysler dealership here pissed me off royally when I was buying. I tried to put up with them, going three times to that same dealership, but the third time was the straw. It was the only dealership that claimed it could get a '05 Neon with a stick that was still in stock new. They wanted $16k for it (not including tax, title, ect.). Chevy sold me a Cobalt for $14k, including all fees and BS. Unfortunately, no stick shifts were avaliable in stock. I'm calling later today about getting another first gen Dakota, this time with a stick shift.

factory keeps pumping out losers and we have no idea how to get rid of them.

The obvious answer here...The Dukes of Hazzard

MadScientist

My dad and 2 brothers worked for ChryCo (1 still does) and I had a brief stint with them as well.  Never had anything else in the family. As for the Charger..... DOH

Hmmm..... how i got into mopars... First off my dad is "Old Guy" on the site here and as you can tell we are a big mopar family! I even think my first word was MOPAR! Then when i was a little bit older i think my first real sentence was "Move Over Power Approaching Rapidly!"  :drive:

My real first encouter with a mopar was a 1968 charger and we were all loaded up in our van and i remember hearing my dad say in excitement, "Hey, look a 1968 Charger" and a few min. after he said that the guy hammered down on it and we all know there isn't anything like a mopar rap'n out in top gear.

From there the years went by and i was always into cars and one day my dad was searching for chargers up in Seattle and came across a 1969 R/T Clone and it was only a few blocks away from our house we ended up buying that and a few months after that picked up a 1968 383 4 BBl 4 Speed Charger and just about a month ago we picked up a 1968 R/T 440 4 Speed so Thats how i got into mopars and there is nothing better on the road then a Mopar! :icon_smile_big:

Lost Sheep

Since I was 5 or 6 I have wanted a car like General Lee and at 18 years old I bought my first Charger, a 68 383 2bbl auto on the column car. So basically Dukes of Hazzard has fueled my wanting a Mopar over the years.
Chicks Dig Muscle Cars

Moparman01

Well, when the Dukes Of Hazzard was origionaly on tv in the late 70's/early 80's i was obbsesed with the General, of course i was only 3 or 4 years old at the time!!! After the Dukes went off the air i pretty much forgot about them and also lost intrest in cars all together. It wasn't untill i got close to driving age that i got back into cars, thanks too...yup the Dukes coming back on TV! Brought back fond memories and i once again was obsessed with the General (and now Daisy to LOL). I wanted to know what kind of car the General was so i started goin through my dads old car mags from the 60's and 70's and discovered how friggin' cool muscle cars where compared to how lame cars most cars are today. Once i started reading and researching the muscle car era i more and more started to lean towards Mopars cuz let's face it, the killed the cheby's and phords and looked a hell of a lot cooler in the procces!! Facts are facts...Mopar's dominated the streets and the stips, and the ovals too!! Our hobby just seems to be alot more interesting than the bow ties and blue oval boys, definatly more colorfull!! Plus, the people of the Mopar hobby are the best in the world, it's like a brotherhood, i mean a guy can pull into a cruise night with a lowly slant 6 Dart Swinger and park next to the guy's with the 'Cudas, RR's, and R/T's and be completly welcomed!!! Let's see that happen in the shivy camp! Plus, most Mopar guy's i know will give you the shirt off there back and go way out of there way to help you get you Mopar up and running! I didn't get into Mopars from my parents or anything, in fact i got them in Mopars! My dad is a retired State Trooper, he drove nothing but big block Mopars on the job in the 60's and 70's, but wouldn'nt own one for a personal car. He was mostly into classic forieghn sports cars (not ricers), but thanks to me he's now a fully Mopar as well. Ditto for my mom, after owning a Olds Aroura that was nothing but problem after problem, now she won't own anything but a Chrysler 300!! So, i kinda fell into Mopars i guess you could say, i caught the bug and i'm never goin back!!

My ol' man always had cool, rare Chebbys, always wrenching on them.  To this day he still has a '55 210 Sedan that I helped sand a fender or two on.  All my buddies were into GM's as well.  One night my buddy and I got suckered into racing a '68 Coronet RT in his '57 Chevy.  My buddies '57 was runnin' it's best and the RT ended up getting us on the other end.  I was bit that night and sold my '70 Camaro to buy that RT about 6 months later and have been Mopar ever since.  An outcast of sorts since then.

Jerry Juneman's Wheels-N-Spokes was in town and I'm sure that had something to do with it as well.

My dad, and his stories about his favorite car:  A 69 Roadrunner he bought new.

If I ever can afford it, I want to get him another one.

THE CHARGER PUNK

Me!!!!, my dad was/is a Gm guy(owned a 68 gto,72 monte carlo,71 skylark and a few others) and never liked mopars until his 68 charger he purchased 5 yrs ago mostly because of me ,my story goes back to when i was 7 years old back in the day of 1996 (<---haha) and I was at zellers with my dad and brother and were waiting for my mom 2 finish, so naturally we head over to the toy section , at this point in my life the only thing i loved were power rangers but as we crossed into the car model aisle i look through the cars and see a black one and as i couldnt quite read all that well i asked my pop '' DAD what type of car is that?'' he responds  '' thats a 68 dodge charger, and that i think usually come in green and orange'' from i was totally fixated on that car ,im almost 18 now and still love it and have done everything in my power to learn about them ,Finally i almost have the funds 2 purchase one with the help of my family for my 18th b-day , february 17th, i later saw bullitt around 12 yrs old at my local library and literally ran the tape until it was no longer useable (haha), oh also my uncle is a mopar guy and owned a hopped up 73 challenger up until a few years ago but i never knew he loved mopars as i do until this year :icon_smile_big:-MATT

mopar_madman

When I was 17 and looked for my first car, a car lot in my town had a 73 charger on the lot and that became my first car, and 20 years later i still hvae that car (and a couple more)
