As far as preventing further rust, one big difference you can make is to have the roof well sealed and painted before you appyl the vinyl.  The factory didn't paint the roof on cars designated for vinyl and the moisture trapped underneath through condensation or heavy rainfall was slow death for the steel.

I tried to put one on myself and I don't have the patience, There is an old issue of mopar muscle that explains it in detail.  I think they even use a 3rd gen.  Mine did not look as good as theres?  It cost about $200 to have an upholstry shop put it on.  I would say that is money well spent.

I'm going to do mine myself. It's too hard to try to take it to someone unless you can get someone to come to you. I did one once before and with a little more patience I'm confident if will come out good. I think it was $110 at Legendary. Another $35 for the sunroof. I skipped painting under it but I am going to go back and do that first.

note for 3rd gen:

stretchening issue on C pillar is backard from 2rd gens. For a while you stretchs toward rear window on 2nd gens, on 3rd gens you have to glue the area belowe the rear glass ( unexistant on 2nd ) and then stretch to front the C pillar.

Good point. Mine is a 3/4 top so it won't be an issue.

no it won't, is a lot easier... 3rd gens halo/full vinyl tops kind are really hard.
