Anyone here deal with Ssnake-Oyl for seat belt restoration?

If so what did it cost you and did it turn out well? Would it be easier to buy one of those friggin' $700-$800 used sets off Ebay?

Ok, I got some info for you lurkers. I sent them an email asking for a quote and I just about pooped my pants. Here's what they had to say:

"$115 per passenger for retractable, $105 per shoulders and $95 per
non-retractable rears."

So I'm no mathematician but those numbers seem like they might add up to a crapload of money. But then I'm a little confused about what "per passenger" means (among other things)? Since a passenger needs two belts to clip together to have one seat belt am I to understand that the retractor and its mate would cost $115 or just the retractor? And does "$95 per non-retractable rear" mean it's going to cost $200 or $400 when it's all said and done? I'll have to ask them for more clarification I guess.

On a side note, is it just me or are most of these places overly vague when giving you prices? I don't know how many times I've had to email resto businesses two or three times to figure out what they're saying.

It was a while ago, however, it was around $700 for the three rear non-retractables and the two front retractables (with a buddy seat included).  I did not have the shoulders done at that time (as it wasn't in the budget).  They are perfect if every way, though.  The chrome is bright and shiny, the stiching is clean and the buckles and mechanics are flawless.  Go with them if you can!

That said, I had an original set of 65 Olds 442 belts done on my dad's car. It was quite a bit of money, but when they do a concourse restoration you can tell. They sewed the original tags back on, re-chromed the buckles and latch, new emblem, re-did the retractors. They looked amazing. Well worth it if you can stomach the $$

That said, it's amazing what can be done just by WASHING a good set of belts and polishing and lubing the buckles and retractors.

They also told me that new tags cost $20 each.

3 lap belts ,  un less you have the rare shoulder belt option

will cost a ton to get them "restored" unless doing a concourse resto, I would just clean them up, dye them with RIT dye and call it done.  unless your hardware is totally trashed, it will probably look mint.

Yesterday at the wrecking yard I found a full green set in a '68 Fury, except for two of the three on the passenger's side which had been cut off about six inches above the bolt. They all have the 1968-1 date on the tags that are still present. Today I went back and grabbed a rear set and shoulder set in black out of a '69 Fury that have 1968-3 tags and one 1969-4 tag. The front retractors were wrong so I left them there. The retractors I got out of the '68 Fury look the same as the Charger retractors and all the buckles and clips look correct too so I guess I have enough stuff now to make a set (and then some). Some of the clips are pretty rusty but most of them are fair to good and the buckles are in fair shape too. I might buy some partial sets just to make sure I have enough but I just can't bring myself to spend $800 on seat belts.
