I can figure out 727's and 904's all day long but my daughters daily driver '89 Plymouth Sundance has me stumped. Shifts 1,2,3 usually, then for no apparent reason sticks in 1. Stop and idle for a minute, then it works fine - for a while. Some days it does it, some it doesn't. I changed the fliud and filtewr but it did not help. She would settle for driving my 68 but thats not an option. Anyone have an idea to fix this cheap. Cars not really worth a new trans. Thanks. Dave

make sure the trottle pressure lever on the trans is not binding.also these old 3 speeds were kind of known for sticking governors.i'm assuming that the problem occurs after coming to a stop and then moving again.if so manually shift it into first and see if you feel a "bump".if you do,the governors sticking.lastly think of this trans as a "baby 904" the operating principles are the same.

Yep, Just a 904 turnd sideways. Ck throttle lever adjustment and make sure it has free travel.
When it acts up shift it manually and see if it' works, if it does  it 's a governor pressure problem

Thanks for the help. At least I have an idea of where to look now.

They had alot of problems with govenors sticking on these little guys. You dont ahave to remove the transaxle to replace it. Dont try to clean it just replace it with a new govenor assembly. Dan
