How to find a good Mopar

Hello from sunny Australia.  I'm planning to come over to the US sometime next year and my primary objective is to find a nice daily driver Mopar.  Ideally, a 68 or 69 Charger but I know I'll not have a lot of time to play with (couple of weeks, maybe 3) so I might need to widen my options and would also consider a nice 72 or 73 Roadrunner or perhaps (if I can afford it) a 70-73 Barracuda.

I wondered if you folk had any suggestions on a particular area or state that has a good Mopar market or perhaps a good swap meet that I might get to.  I can learn a lot over the Web but I'm fast discovering that what is on the web is not always as good as what is really available when you are there on the ground.

I'll check back on this post and will read your thoughts and ideas with great interst, so thank you in advance to anyone who can contribute.

I think I would first decide exactly which car you want, what condition you want it to be in and price you're willing to pay before you come so you're not confusing the issue. Swap meet season is pretty much over and I couldn't prove that any particular state has more Mopars than another, although you do see a lot in California because the weather is nicer and it's a big state with lots of people. I think if I were you I'd concentrate on a largely populated region in California such as Orange County and/or San Diego.

Here's one that looks nice in Gardena (wherever that is). Not sure why it's so cheap: http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/2/85955432.htm

For the most part, Utah is a pretty Mopar lean state...so scratch this one of your list of possible states to visit. :icon_smile_big:

Like Bull said, the season is pretty much winding down now, especially in the colder states. I would think Arizona, Florida & the western coast would probably be the best areas this time of year.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

hi DannyG
Maybe you want to check out this swap meet:
www.pomonaswapmeet.com
located in LA, also easier to ship your car to your home town.
Good luck!

Buy a roadrunner. We don't want anymore Chargers leaving. :icon_smile_big:

Really though, I think your better off hunting the western region of the country. You'll probably run into rust problems wherever you look but back east it's worse. Last time I checked Seattle has the only port to ship cars out of the Northwest region.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for the good advice you've taken the time to post.

My brother spent 6 months on the west coast last year and I focused a search on that area at the time.  I came up with a couple of good "worth-a-look" vehicles, so I think that's a good place to start, especially given your collective advice.  I've also read about the Pomona swap meet.  I'm lead to beleave that it can be a good spot for a bargain but you need to be lucky as a lot of stuff is still commanding top prices.  Even so, I reckon it would be a great meet to experience even if I only come away with some t-shirts and hats.  I will also definately look into the Charger registry meet.

Thansk again guys.  Looking forward to seeing some of you soon perhaps.
