anyone got any advice for me on what to look for in a first Gen?....

fresh paint allways scares me, why would someone paint a car and then sell it?  usually to hide major rot, bring a magnet. :icon_smile_big:

Good Luck, and hope you snag it.

BTW, what's your definition of "All Original (except the tires)?  :shruggy:

:popcrn:   40 year old car   :scratchchin:  It would be nice to look at the under carriage.   :scratchchin:   Check the oil, see if it smells like gasoline and if does that might be a sine of a worn engine.   :scratchchin:   Hopefully when you get there the car hasn't run all day and you can start it up, let it run for 10 or 15 seconds and take off, and see if its cold blooded. Sorry this is probably a little to general.

Nice 66. It would look all the more cooler once you get those lights to flip over. I own a 66 and bought it with the headlight doors in the open position. Finally got them to work and it totaly transformed the car or at least my appreciation of it! You should get it, the 66-67's are very unique cars nothing on the road like them.

It looks like a sharp car.  The things to be aware of are the el lighting.  Do all the guages and indicators light up?  Does the radio face light up?  How about the shift indicator plate?  Next up would if all the guages work?  The instrument limiter is integral with the fuel guage on these cars so problems with it are not insurmountable at all but it does add to the headache factor.
Next would be the headlight motors.  The motors are unique to the 66 and 67 Chargers and the problem could be with the motors themselves, the hold open switch, the limit switches or the combination of relays required to operate them, or all of those items.  Again, not insurmountable but patience can be big plus to working them out.
C chromes.  These are the ones that are at the outer edges of the grille and they are usually cracked or missing and they are made of unobtanium.  If you need them, be ready to pay big.  Really big.
Most of the remaining trim items that have traditionally been a problem with these cars are now being or are about to be repopped.
The dash pad is also unique to the Charger so it's a plus if it isn't cracked.  Those are likely the biggies.  There are others but the worst used to be parts availability.  Thanks to the internet, that has been greatly overcome.  Fastback owners are very cultlike and you'll find them very helpful about trying to get another car on the road when it comes to parts.  Don't be lulled by the "it's just a Coronet with a fastback".  There is very little interchange between the two cars.

My 67 has the same issues at the roof joint. It's the weld area where the roof is sectioned on. I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that the seam was filled with lead and that over the years you get this sort of look. I'm probably full of chit.

Ghoste, can you speak more about the gas gauge vs the cluster? My gas guage just started working when it feels like it but the rest of the dash is fine. I was thinking it was a bad ground/sending units issue but would like to hear anything more you might know about the subject.

Bull, how much did he want again?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

What I meant was that on other Mopars, the voltage limiter is in that little stand alone can on the back of the instrument panel.  On the 1st gen Chargers, it is inside the fuel guage.  It functions the same, it was just put in there for some reason.  In order to service it, you have to remove the cluster, remove the fuel guage and then take the guage apart.
Your fuel guage working intermittently when the other guages are okay is likely more to be a ground or short issue somewhere else in the fuel wiring.

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

I've decided  :icon_smile_blackeye: to pass on this particular Charger,..
Unlike all my other rides It didn't scream out to me, "Take Me I'm Yours!" and the roof wave/s bothered me allot..
and my brilliant plan to sell the 300 M to raise the majority of cash for the deal seems ill advised, as i really, don't, probably, need another B-body to sort out..
What I need and have is a 30 MPG daily driver that isn't 40 years old... It's all paid off and so meanwhile I'm bringing back the B.S.G. and the Skunk is gonna need some attention so, in the final analysis my common sense won out over my high school crush..  :-\
Is anyone else interested?. he's asking $ 16.9K car is rust free and all there...  :yesnod:
