In another thread I admitted to selling my 69 Coronet 500 and bought an 85 Daytona Turbo Z. That was my worst trade ever. ::)

Anyone else have any stupid car trading stories?

About 12 years or so ago, I bought a v-code '70 Bee.  I had a '68 Coronet RT, my first Mopar, and a daily driver '72 Charger.

My new wife wanted me to sell the RT so a dude came over with $$ in hand and traded me an old first generation Honda Civic and $3500.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

3 months later the RT was in the Auto Trader for $8500.

I traded a 1969 VW Beetle and 500.00 for a 1968 Chevelle SS 396 back in 1972. Was the best trade I ever made. Then sold the SS in 1976 for 1000.00 during the gas shortage, my worst decision ever.
Cars owned:
1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

I passed up a 69 Barracuda because it had a 273 and it wasn't a fastback... All new paint/ interior/ and rebuilt! I was a STUPID KID!!! :'(
Missed out on a 67 Satellite, rust free for $1200 because it was a slant six... I was a teenager who wanted to go fast. The worst part is that I ended up with a 318 car anyways! :rotz:

My dad (God rest his soul) had a couple. In the earrly 70's, he traded a '67 Corvette 396 4-speed (with knock-off wheels) for a '66 Buick Wildcat (straight-up trade)..In the late 90's we saw a nearly identical corvette sell for over $100,000.
He traded it because he was mad that the convertible top leaked onto his new leather coat.

He had a few others (like passing up a Gull-Wing Mercedes for $1000) but the 100K corvette had to be his biggest goof.

I'm trying not to follow in his foot steps..everytime I come across a deal, I do whatever I can to jump on it..so far I owe 6 first-born children, and 3 moms that i've already sold  :P ;D

my brother about 20 years ago had  a 69 sold it for 150 bucks because he said it had too many parking tickets  what a jackass :rotz:

I sold a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport for $100. It had a 8 3/4 rear, Shure grip, and was originally a 340/4speed car...

I have a '69 Dodge 1/2 ton that amounts to a cab and a frame now. :P Paid $100 for it, and never got my hood. I tried to get my money back out of it, but couldn't do that either.
For every good man that is born, another good man must die.  Yet somehow the
factory keeps pumping out losers and we have no idea how to get rid of them.

My 78 Super Coupe for a Dodge Caravan.

The one I really kick myself over was 5 years ago. We went to a cruise at a local Dodge dealer. We park and Deb goes for a walk to check out the cars while I stay with the car.

She comes back and says, "there is a Challenger over there that is for sale for $10,000".

So I got for a walk and come up on a 70 Challenger with the hood up. I look, it's a hemi. I peak over the hood at the windshield, it's got a 4 sale sign. This is the $10,000 car....

It was gone before I got back to my car.

I traded a 67 Charger 440 4spd for a 67 Barracuda 273 auto for my son,  He didn't like the car because it did not have AC so my father in law gave him a 9? corssica with AC.  I sold the Plymouth for 2k could have gotten a lot more for the Charger, probably would have kept it.  He wanted a auto trans :'(

Now don't get mad at the type of car - yes, a Tin Indian - back in '85, I traded a 1966 Lemans (389/350 4spd) CONVERTIBLE to a buddy for an RC plane and a queen-size bed. That just sounds pretty damn silly, and I have neither and he still has the damn car!

smasherofall

back about 1980 I sold my 73 340 cuda to buy a 76 aspen R/T. My stepfather traded even a 71 Superbee, 6pak, AG for a 69 chevy truck in about 1984. :rotz:

I have a friend that traded a nice running 66 HEMI Satellite for a snowmobile back in 1986. That HEMI car is still winning trophys at shows today. You should see his face when I remind him of that flub-up.

69s did not come with 273s.  The last year a 273 was put into a Barracuda was 67.

I haven't had enough cars to trade, but my father traded a 72 Satellite Sebring, for a 78 Aspen.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

1965 was the only year 396's were available for a Corvette. A very desirable year and engine combo because of that.  Chevy had 5 engine choices for that model year!

L76 327ci 365hp Engine 5,011
L78 396ci 425hp Engine 2,157
