modify shift linkage??

have a 72 SE with a 440 and auto on the column going in with thorley headers and on the back of the install sheet for the headers it talks about turning the cross shaft upside down with the brackets and modifying and such    anyone ever done this and how hard was it???

here is a pic of what I did with my 72. As you can somewhat ell in the pics, I flipped the whole thing upside down and mounted it. The tab on the framerail bracket is turned so it rests on the bottom of the rail. Hope this helps.

it helps alot... thanks... in the instruction sheet i have it talks about cutting one bracket and re welding it and also bending one of the rods..... good to know thats not necessary....
