The wife is looking for a new SUV, we are looking at 2 vehicles. a Grand Cherokee and a Durango are the for-runners <mainly because I want her to get a mopar again>

is there anything I need to know about the 4.7 awd 2001 Durango? who owns one? whats been your experience?

The Durango is in the running because of the 3rd row seating.

i made arrangments to test drive an SRT/8 G.C. today...
does that count?..   :icon_smile_big:
so the Aspen is out then?..

i'd wait cause they ain't selling and neither is the Commander...  :rotz:

Khyron

not looking at the Aspen. I had a 76 ;)

seriously though, i'm looking at a used one, The one we test drove today was a 2001 with the 4.7, the thing was loaded. I really liked it, but i'm trying to gather as much info as I can. I know that the durangos had some recalls that where fairly serious, ball joints, Steering links and such. So i'm just trying to make sure I have the big picture with this truck.

The jeep is on the top of the list, however, we should get the 3rd row seating.

I have a 99 5.9 and it is great for towing cars and boats. I also was looking at the 4.7 but the loss in towing capacity steered me towards the 5.9. I have towed my boat 24' and numerous cars no problem. I have had it almost 5 years and still love it.

My brother in law had a 4.7 and towed a 19' boat no problem.

4.7 is a fantastic engine.  There is actually an aftermarket for them too.  If you look at the heads, they have a VERY similar shape as the poly heads from the 50s and early 60s (just a little bbit of trivia).

Seriously though, my mom has 175,000 miles on the 4.7 GC and not a single problem.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

We bought a 2000 Durango two years ago when we were stuck in Iowa for my old job. :icon_smile_dead: My 2000 Dakota R/T was not able to get around in the snow and crap, yes I did keep the Dakota. We have loved the Durango with it's 4.7. The gas mileage was decent and it went everywhere we wanted to go. I drive it daily now that I'm back in Missouri. I don't think you will regreat buying one. The third seat is great for our sons and their friends.

I just thought i'd toss this out there... if you are looking for gas mileage, the Diesel Liberty is supose to be impressive.

the Mercedes Deisel guys i talk to even liked it... that is saying a lot!

I've had my 2000 4.7 for about 4 years, my sister has an '01 with the 4.7 and we love them "D's". The 4.7 is plenty stong for me and sounds great with some duals, not the best gas mileage in the world 14/19 is about my best. I had the recall for the ball joints done so be sure to check that. The 3rd seat is the best thing, kids fightin, one goes in the way back and it's OK for adults too on shorter trips. No regrets. Go for it

I d take the durango myself over the jeep, just due to the fact that the fuel mielage is the same, and you are getting a bigger full frame vehicle-wish i had one to sell ya,that would give us an excuse to meet up!!any questions pm me or give me a call, office #315-594-8004,cell315-567-6288,and i can run the vins, and at least let you know if your getting a good deal,Andy

Congrats Khyron, you scored the best looking bodystyle, with good options. I'd love to have one of my own, in red or black. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Very nice Khyron, nice choice of color,my favorite.Good luck with it.I have had 2 durangos, bought a new 99,white,318,just a few options.Watched as the dakota had the R/T option, and thought it would be cool if they made a durango R/T.Well,a year and a half later for 2000,R/T durango was offered,in with my 99 w/13 k miles, out with a brand new black durango 5.9 R/T.Absolutely love it,use it for those nice day family drives. As I only drove it one time this year,I know,it's a little ridiculous,it just clicked 14 k miles.Still smells new inside !!!!  LOL
