basically the Z bar only changes the direction of the movement.  From the clutch pedal, you have the clutch rod that connects to the z-bar.  The z bar connects to the clutch adjustment rod which gets connected to the clutch fork that goes into the bell housing.  The clutch fork has the throw out bearing on the end that rests on the clutch pressure plate which keeps pressure on the clutch disc to keep it on the fly wheel.  The z-bar is mounted by two ball studs that go on either end.  One end threads into the bell housing and the other end attaches to a welded on bracket on the driverside frame rail.  Inside the z-bar where the ball studs go in are two 1/2 round plastic bushings packed in by a rubber seal on each side.  All this is lubricated with a grease fitting on the z-bar just like the ones on the tie rods and ball joints.

This part of the install is very important. If you look at the Z-bar you will see 2 very small holes near the outboard arm, these are for the ends/tips of the snap ring/horseshoe clip. When you look at the plastic bushings they have a groove around the outside, when you slide the outboard bushing/ballstud combination into the Z-bar the grooves must line up with the holes so the tips of the clip go into the grooves. This keeps the Z-bar from moving side to side causing the linkage to bind up and give you headaches. Do the inboard side first, then do the above and just lower the threaded end of the ballstud down into the slot in the bracket, install the washer and nut and your all set, good luck.
