I am purchasing a 1970 Dodge Charger and would like help in decoding the VIN. The VIN is xp29000174575. The problem I am having is with the fifth number/digit which denotes the engine. Was there a "0" engine? Any help would be appreciated.

Double check your number. The fifth digit will be a letter.

Here's a good decoder, plus tons on info regarding 70's. ;)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I'll wager that the car's VIN is XP29G0G...

Reason?  Well, if they mistook the seventh letter as a zero or "O", they probably mistook the engine code for that same letter.  The seventh letter had to be a "G", since all '70 Chargers were made at the St. Louis plant -- which means the fifth letter is also likely a "G", denoting a 318 2bbl Charger.
