What's the difference between seatbelts with 1968-1, 1968-2, 1968-3 and 1968-4 date codes on tags? Is it just a quarterly thing so you know which 1/4th of the year they were made?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Yep thats it...1st quarter, 2nd quarter.....

Usually coencides with your build date.....my car has a 4/30/69 build with 1969-1 belts in it....   probably right on the edge of the 1st quarter 2nd quarter date

Then I wonder if mine should have 1968-1 or '67 belts because the engine is dated '67 but it left the factory on Jan. 8, '68? Did they start putting 1968-1 belts in the '68s built in '67?

I think it is actual year quarters, not model year. My November 1968 built 1969 model year Charger has 4-1968 tags on the belts. Even at that I am sure it all boils down to when the belt was made. It could taken a little time to get to a car, so many January 1969 cars likely still had 4-1968 tags.

That begs the question then, are the '67 belt different than the '68 belts? Apparently they are according to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/66-67-Dodge-Coronet-R-T-500-Charger-Seat-Belts-NICE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140743QQihZ009QQitemZ190041552420QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I guess my car could have gone either way since it left the factory just eight days into '68.

Yes they changed the style for 68, but keep in mind your front seat belts could be int color and
the rear buckles chrome, they are on my October and December built Chargers. And to add
to that, my two earlier cars only have two rear belts stock  :shruggy:  interesting .
My May 68 built car has all black buckles.

My '68 was built in Sept. '67 and they read "3-1967."

The fabric is red (interior color) and the buckles are chrome.

Just my two cents. ;D

Is there any way to know which style a car would have gotten by the build sheet info? But then I have no build sheet so I don't see there being much information available to me on the topic.

Dan, what about the the part that goes into the body-colored buckle up front? Are they the '68 style or '67?

68 style would be correct, your bottom pic. Never seen the top style in a 68-69 or 70

So you're saying there are chrome buckles out there with '68-style clips? I've only seen the chrome buckles with the T-clips and the painted buckles with the suare-hole clips. I guess there's a third choice out there I haven't seen but if I'm ever going to get something close to the right belts I'll have to stick with a 1968-1 set. What a hassle.
