I'd say you'd have to go with E body convertible parts.  Chrysler never made a convertible 3rd gen b body in any make.  Chassis stiffening will be the biggie.

Wouldn't the E Body top frame be a little short?

Ghoste

I would think you could fabricate that easy enough??

Old Tired Rebel

I would have to get all the body done then cut the roof off.OY I would be killed by the better half. Interesting concept though.

sorry guys, bored and surfing, resurrecting a old thread,

here is a 69 Charger Convert.

If Chrysler had actually made them I think it would be a beautiful car, of course they would need to lay the windshield back a bit more, this guy has a 69 Charger that had a tree fall on it, and they had a 69 Coronet convert that had been in a accident, took the roof of the Charger and took the stuff from the convertible and made one car,

that's Darren's car up here in Seattle area...he did a great job on that car

Sublime/Sixpack

Looks good! Although a boot to cover the top in the down position would be nice.

The roof, door glass, windshield, back glass of the 3rd gen Charger/Plymouth 71-4 are the same, just the qtr sheetmetal/qtr window are different depending on make/year, that being said when the Dayclona 71 GTX was built in 2007/8, a 70/1 E body vert top frame was used, unmodified...you need to modify the surrounding vehicle...I'll give you the stats required

DAY CLONA

First you need to cut the roof, leaving some of the front windshield area intact, you'll need to fabricate your own chrome trim around the well you create, in this case solid steel was used, heated/shaped/formed to fit the car, then blind drilled/tapped on the underside for threaded studs to be added later when the pcs were chrome plated, so they could be attached to the well opening and finish it off very much like the factory would have done...that's the stock dutchman panel on the 71, same as 71-4 B body, cut right at the top where in rolls into a rear window channel, of course you need to fabricate/modify the gtrs and dutchman to emulate the finish a convertible would have...

DAY CLONA

You'll need to fabricate your own stainless steel trim to fit over the trimmed stock roof section around the windshield to emulate a factory style vert look, trust me, we tried fitting E body B body even C body vert trim around the 71-4 B body glass, it don't fit, fabricated is the only way to achieve this, so you need to be versed in hand fabricating stainless trim without flaws or welds, the trim for the GTX is 3 hand fabbed pcs, incorporating no welds all hammer/dolly and corking work on wooden bucks

Mike

DAY CLONA

You'll need to fabricate an inside panel to finish the inside of the header panel, I fabricated this in one pcs in steel to hold/house the repro E body latches and rearview mirror/sunvisors and finished it in black wrinkle paint to simulate a crinkled vinyl/plastic appearance

DAY CLONA

You'll also need to alter the 71-4 upper rear interior panels to allow the rear frame mechanism to retract, factory side door (hardtop) glass was retained, however the qtr windows were fabricated from templates supplied to an outside vendor, so that the outer profile of the qtr glass would match the folded roof opening and match the 71-4 B body door glass angle, basically a merging of the E body and B body glass together,...2 qtr windows custom made in tempered glass will run you $2500, and you'll nee to cut down the upper rear portion of the seat sides, just like the factory did on verts...

There's plenty of mods to be made, you'll also need to cut down and add a flat to the top of the inside wheel wells so that the frame of the vert folds down and has clearance, as far as bracing, all that was done was welded in subframes, installed when the car was suspended at 4 lifting points at the front and rear subframe members, and before the roof was cut off, this was more than adequate for the 440 /6 being added later, there was no noticeable torsional body twist, or body gap movement, or glass breakage/cracking
