May be a dumb question, but figured I would ask.  On my 69 440hp, I have 1 stripped out hole on the harmonic balancer.  The other 5 are fine.  Is it ok to use a helicoil on this?  It is too stripped out to retap.
thanks in adavance

I cant see why not?  As long as the others are in good shape.

I have just been told that it will mess the balance up if I do.  Wanted to make sure.  Would it of mattered whether it was an internally or externally balanced engine?

It will not matter either way, the weight is so little of a difference, and it is so close to the center of the
rotating Assembly, it will not be an issue. I have two in one of mine going on 26yrs now, no issues.

The metal your removing is being replaced by the Heli-coil so balance will not be an issue.

Your motor will never know the difference.
