Chris

I have a 72 Dodge Charger Ralley coupe with the 340 Magnum and pistol grip four speed. I would like to know if anyone has any statistics, production numbers, is it or could it be a rare model or any information on this type of car. I have sent everything to Galen Govier and the Charger Regestry several months ago and have heard nothing back and the phone numbers are answering machines, I leave messages but never get replies. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Mr.Sixpack

I'll talk to my wife, she has a 72 Charger Rallye 440 4spd and Dana 60.
She might know.

Take care

Chris

I appreciate your help and any information you can give me

Mr Sixpacks wife

That's odd, why haven't they got back to you? But I know I had to chase Galen.  :flame:
I know 4 spds were unusual. Let me check if I can find any information regarding 340" and 4 spd. There were a handful 440" and 4 spd with Ram Charger hood made.  ;D

Thanks for your help. Do you have any good phone numbers for Galen Govier other than 608-326-6346? He had no problem cashing my check! I have also been trying to Contact Wayne Wooten at the Charger Registry who also had no problem cashing my check, no luck getting through on this number as well 434-223-1305.

When Galen had made a withdraw on my husbands VISA card and nothing happend for months my husband said he will contact VISA and make them charge Galen, maybe you should claim you will contact your bank regarding that check, I mean make the bank pay you the money and charge Galen for that (if possible).  :yesnod:

Wayne I think is sometimes very busy, isn't he a soldier? I think he's often out on military stuff. Mr Sixpack, do I remember things correct now? I'm not sure right now.
I'll see if I can find any information about your car.  :boogie:

Wait a minute, you wrote – Coupe – can you pull down your rear windows?  :icon_smile_cool:

I am currently in Baghdad Iraq and do not have any pictures with me, the car is currently going through a rotisserie restoration and I am expecting to have it completed in time next summer for Carlilse. I will see if I can get you some pictures.

not 100% sure but I think the coupe has fixed rear windows, if they roll down its a hardtop.
mines a hardtop and they roll down

My bag, you learn something new everyday! I just assumed they(Chargers) were all hard tops, but I was told that it was called a 72 Ralley coupe years ago. So they had two models in 72, A Ralley and A Ralley coupe? Does that sound about right to you? I have never seen a 72 with fixed rear windows, I thought they were in the 73 and 74 models? Thanks for any additional info you might have!

Jon Smith

I have an old sales brochure somewhere that lists a coupe and a hardtop, but like I said I'm not 100% sure about the windows

Let me know if you find it and what it says, if you have any other ideas how I can find out more about this car I would really appreciate it, any other people or sites with info on this would be fantastic!

Thanks again

Wayne works on barges and is gone almost all the time. He will get your stuff to you but it may take some time. I assume the money you sent to him is the membership fee not just for decoding.

I don't have any experience with Galen's turn around time on info.

Membership and decoding, I wanted to learn everything about this car as I have had it for a very long time.

I don't have the '72 info but my dad owned a '73 Rallye 340 4 speed and a little over 300 were made. I would guess your car is somewhere around that number too.

Any ideas of who or where I could look to get that information?

There are several members here that usually have pretty good production # info as long as they read this post. As far as an "official" letter stating something Galen is about it.

Hi Chris! This came up couple yrs ago on the old "dodge-charger.com".  One of the members at that time had all the stats. and I remember it well as a good friend in H.S. ordered one, 340mag. 4-speed Rallye - one of the 39 ordered in '72.  As for the Rallye coupe - rear window should be fixed. Hardtops roll down.    Jim

Cool car! I love the 1972 rallyes. And yes, the description of the coupe is correct, the rear windows are fixed. The coupe VIN is different from the hardtop, with the coupe VIN beginning WL21 and the hardtop beginning WH23. According to Galen's little white book, there were 289 4-speed 340 Rallye Charger hardtops made. There were 39 4-speed 340 Rallye coupes made, and generally the coupes are much more rare than the hardtops. I finally did get a response back from Galen, and in his opinion, my 1972 440 Rallye coupe is the only one made with bucket seats and the N96 ramcharger hood package. According to the Mopar records, bucket seats and console were not availble on the coupe model. but mine has them.

I've heard that all 440 coupes are crashed, all 11 of them. Is yours one of those 11 coupes?

Yes, coupes can't roll down rear windows but hardtops can. Sorry for my swedish language, sometimes I can't find correct words, I hope you see what I mean at the end.
Mine is a WH23 440 Magnum, 4 spd, Dana 60 with 3.54:1 gear, optioned with N96 and pistol grip shifter. Has no powerbrakes or powersteering, a clean muscle car for ladies.  ;)
Right now it's undergoing some small work like a new engine with even more power.

Here are some pictures, the one without the hood is a few days old.

That what I was to post ( more less ) about WL21 and WH23 models... not sure about console/bcukets or not stuff. All my info is from the web since I don't live in USA
