Hi, just bought this 440 today to rebuild,  was wondering what these numbers mean.      Was hoping it was a steel crank 70, but looks like it is prob. a 72, I don't know. some pics show numbers better than others, thanks, Nate

Last pic here is the exhaust manifold stamp.

Dog, the 72 440 will be a steel crank motor and from the looks of the harmonic balancer.....it is a steel crank. Good score !  :icon_smile_cool: It's possible that this engine could have 6-pack rods as many post '70 engines had them. Remove the lower pully and snap a pic of the harmonic balancer so we can see what you've got there. If it has the 6-pack rods there should be an offset weight on the front of the balancer.

The cylinder heads should be #346 castings which have the flame hardened exhaust seats. Those are descent heads for todays unleaded fuel.  ;)

The exhaust manifolds are the standard low performance logs....of no real value for any type of performance build.

Alright, thank you, that's good news.     The 440 I already have that I got with my car was out of car and disassembled, its a cast iron crank mid seventies, and I don't have any of the internal bolts for it, well, no bolts at all, so I needed all that stuff.

I got this one today for 180., he was asking 200, so I guess I did ok.     I am just going to have this one rebuilt I guess.

Good score dude. I picked up a 67' 440 today myself. It's in a chrysler 300 right now running. Motor and trani' will be pulled this weekend. 33000 org. miles also. Look for some H.P. manifolds on ebay if you don't want headers. I bought two pairs so far for less than 200 bucks in exlent condition.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

SeattleCharger

Now that is a good score.    Speaking of hp exhaust manifolds, I got these used last year, are refurbished, was wondering if in fact they are the correct ones, one side looks correct, other side I am not sure, #'s seem to be quite different between left and right side. Do they at least look correct?   I don't know.   What do you guys think?  Well, regardless of numbers, do these at least look like hp exhaust manifolds?

There you go Nate good score, like I said, if you did not get it I would  ;D  hope my input helped, you will not regret
paying what you did for that engine.

Its probably for an early 73 car/truck looking at that date code. I thought you said the pulley were of on the crank?
well there they are you have the bottom pulley bolts I was telling you about  ;D  Take a pic of the top
engine pad as well, that will tell us more.

By the way, your new black manifolds are left side HP and right side non HP. Because they are 72 and later manifolds.

My numbers for my H.P. passenger side is 2806900 N 6. Left is at work, but it's the match to what I have. Others I have at work also. Your right side doesn't appear to be a H.P.

Thanks Dan, yes, your advice was a great help today about buying that engine, thank you.

Well, the guy who sold me the black exhaust manifolds ripped me off, I didn't know better, where am I going to get just one side?  At least I know not to trust him about the "marked"  lifters I bought from him matching the cam I bought from him.  I will use neither.   Anyone know where to buy just one side hp exhaust manifold?

Hey Nate
These are the manifolds you need to be correct, and correct looking for your 68.

I'd say that was a STEEL of a deal!

Hey, thanks for telling me about the motor, he is a cool guy, even though he isn't into Mopars,   and nice of him to lower the price some for me.  He showed me his ten second car he had in that big garage.   And I know that guy he works with also.  Dave?  He is into cars, sounds like you know him also.

And I called that transmission rebuilder, sounds like that is a great connection also, thanks.

Dan, what is the collector size on the hp exhaust manifolds?  I have 2 1/2 inch exhaust.     Maybe I should just get some headers, do you have headers or hp's?  Thank you

So those manifolds are not a matching set in any way?

Here are two pics from the top of the engine.

that 440 stamp looks like a rare double die coin.. may be worth something ;)  No problem Nate, glad to help.
You need to take that bracket off and see the date, I believe it will be after the 440.

Pat is definitely the tranny guy. doesn't seem to be anything he doesn't know or hasn't done with mopar trannys.

I know a great engine builder also if you're interested.

Yes, if you take your trans to Pat Blais you went to the best  :yesnod: :yesnod:

Love that double stamp.

Nate, I found a set of H.P. here for sale for $350.00 in excelent cond. If you want them PM me and I'll pick them up for you as long as the guy still has them by the time you get ahold of me. I seen them, they are nice.

thanks Mark, been looking around for some, or considering headers.    The hp exhaust manifolds seem to be listed as a 68-69 application, or a 70-71 application, anyone know why does that matter if its for a 440?   Would a left 68 one work with a right 72 one?

Dan, (or anyone,   :icon_smile_big:)found a right side hp for sale, this one:
HP exhaust manifold that is correct for a 1968-1969 mopar. Casting number is 2806900.

Do you know if it will work with the left one I have?   even though they are different years?    For the engine I show above.   Thank you,

The flow being similar is what matters most, right?   The right side for sale I found is the older one, my left hp I have is the 72, the newer one has the ridge on side, instead of flat surface, bummer.   Don't know if this would be that noticable in car,

But the mismatched hp and non hp I have look more alike as far as the line on them, but the pressuer flow is different?
