for the late build 1971 Plymouth Road Runner?..
orange or red?..
it's a 340 BTW.

oh, and what about a July build '69 Charger with a 440 Magnum?..

why two different colors?
let me guess,..
Red was earlier and the orange superseded it..
but when?..

PocketThunder

i agree that the early charger is red and the late rr is orange.  but not sure on when.... year one will know if you call and ask them.

Consensus has it that the red is for 66-68 and orange is for 69 & later.

I have heard that 69 is the transion year for red to orange....exactly when I dont know.

I have an orange one on my 69 because I like orange better :nana:

Brock,
Year One gives that info in their catalog where they have their pans listed(page 205)It says that earlier production cars(1968-1969)tend to have the red lids where as the 1970-71 era used more orange.If you need a red 440 magnum lid I have one that I believe is N.O.S.I would sell it.I don't need it.I would also sell it for less than the cost of a new one....Let me know! :icon_smile_tongue:

My september 68 built 69 had a red pie pan, as did the other pie pan off of a 2/69 parts car I bought in the 80s.  not sure when they switched to orange, and it may be different since both of mine are 440 magnum pie pans.

Beer, very very nicely done! I have been looking for this information for a long time. I have a 68 Charger with the 383 4bbl. carb and have been trying to determine which air cleaner is correct, the dual snorkle, or the smaller unsilenced one. From your info can I deduct that the 1968 C bodies with the 383 4bbl. carb used a different air cleaner than the B bodies with the same engine because of the indent for the a.c. compressor? It would seem that they should be the same. Also these dual snorkle air cleaners would not accept a pie tin unless it was for a Chrysler? I have a dual snorkle air cleaner from a 68 Dodge Monaco 383 4bbl. car that fits my 68 Charger 383 4bll. with a.c. but I can not find a pie tin to fit it. So does mean I have the correct air cleaner or should I be looking for one that was made for the B body or should I be using the unsilenced one and not a dual snorkle?  I have come to the conclusion that either one is correct depending on the month of the manufacture date. Am I on the right track here or have I missed something? Please post a reply if you can or e-mail me at chargr68@netconx.net   Thanks
