I need a new sound system for my computer. Any suggestions?

Either I'm going deaf or my computer's sound system is getting weak. It never was all that strong to begin with. Any suggestions on a new setup that won't break the bank?

I'd be interested too in upgrading my entire system,..
i found some thrown away old speakers at work, that were three times as big and four times as heavy as the weak ones that came with my Dell and they are a deffinate improvement,... i do know from xperiance that the heavier the magnets the better the sound..
but since more and more my audio and video playbacks are on the 'puter I'm thinking i may have to ramp up to a custom system...
i priced some digital speakers at guitar center and they were awesome but well over $1,500 for just two speakers...
I'll search the web and get back to ya' on that..

Can you explain that more specifically? I don't really get the sound card thing.

basically you get a lead that plugs into the output on your computer(where you plug the speakers into the computer) and splits into 2 jack plugs that go into the aux inputs at the back of your stereo, thats all you need

If you decide to buy a system for the PC not too expensive, but does have a nice sound and bass, try a creative set. They have very nice stuff for ok prices. Not too cheap, logitech is cheaper but I think Creative sounds better. Just my opinion. Anyways I have 2 speaker, 1 bass setup which was about 60 bucks. You can set the volume and bass level seperatly and it is easy to set up.

for a stereo system with a subwoofer... I would go with Klipsch. JUST A LITLE BIT expensive than creative sets but REALLY WORTHS... is a hundred times more SOLID SOUND than any creative set.

for a computer that is.
I got these for my mom for her new computer, and according to her they are the best speakers in her whole house and she has a pretty nice sound system in the living room. i've been using an older set of 4.1s for a while and my friend got a set of the 5.1s MMMM that are awesome.

my mom has a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS as her sound card. its not top of the line, but its a good buy for the money.

Your soundcard should have an audio-out jack, just like on the back of a stereo receiver.  Get some audio cables and run them from the output of the soundcard to any available input on your stereo receiver. 

Of course, none of this will work if you don't have a soundcard.  Are you using onboard/motherboard audio?

I wasn't talk about 5.1 audio system... stereo is just far enough, and very accesible talking about price. maybe you will spend around 30-40% more but really worths

My computer doesn't have those yellow and white jacks, just a small headphone-sized plug in.

you can get a lead that plugs in there and splits into the two coloured jacks, (mine are red and white) to plug into you stereo

heheh I'm starting to look like a klipsch salesman LOL... I was around 5 years ago a High-end ( Marantz, B&W, Klipsch, Krell McIntosh, Yamaha ) and Pro sound  ( RCF, EAW, Yamaha, Mach, BBS, DBX etc... ) system salesman... also lighting and musical instruments.

I just got mine set up, works great. Technics 90 watt amp and Boston cr8 bookshelfs. I picked up the plug adapter at radio shack last night for 7 bucks..I'll never go back to those little computer speakers again. this set up CRANKS!
