maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't look like a 500 to me

Brock Samson

well  It's a '1970 500 allright, one step above the base cars they came with more trim then the standard "base" ones and could be had with motors up to the 383 bbl..

Allpar site is a weath of info and allways worth a link..

I don't get the problem? Looks like it is a 500 to me. Wouldn't the XP VIn and the tailpanel trim confirm that?

I dont think that '70 model year 500s are too rare...maybe what he's trying to say is that 500s that are still 500s (not cloned into R/Ts) are rare.... ???

I stand corrected  :-[
I ignorantly assumed all 500s looked like this one http://www.1969chargerregistry.com/gallery/69chargers/IM001740

no prob it's a easy mistake to make...
thanks for the link

I think one or the other has confused the difference between the 1969 and 1970 Charger 500s. Obviously the 70s aren't all that rare and I have no idea what he means by "most are the regular models". Of course, many could actually be cloned into R/Ts which would make sense also but that doesn't make his statement about them being rare correct. I wanna know why (and maybe where) he got a silver carpet kit and why is he putting a black headliner in a silver car with silver carpet? At least it already has the engine bay painted and comes with a 440. I think he skipped over the part about fixing the front fender and grill though.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

69 500 came out for race purpouse on NASCAR, so they were sold on street version. Then to get better Race response, came out Daytona also for NASCAR on half of year, no more reason to 500 being sold on the way it was, because as part of NASCAR rules, Daytona was being sold also on dealers, replacing the 500.

However they keep the 500 model up to 71 as an extra package trim based on base model with 383 standart equipment engine. We can say 500 is an intermediate model between Base model and R/T. On 70 no more flushed rear window and 68 coronet grill, just some added trim.

69 and 71 were the more Variety of Chargers sold on dealers to choose:
69: Base, R/T, 500, Daytona, SE ( first year to SE ), and you could combine R/T-SE package.

71: Base, 500, Superbee ( since no more  2 doors Coronets, they came out on Chargers package option ), SE, Hardtop, R/T. NO combined models but you could add trim on dealer and in that way ALLMOST get a R/T-SE choosing for example add hideaways beams that were ONLY part of package on SEs. Difference between Hardtop and Base model, is non roller down quarter windows on base, called also Coupe for same reason.
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

That's how I read it.

Big Lebowski

$6000 ain't bad for it. It depends on the trunk/rail rust.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."
