It's called "advertising".  :eyes:

Ive never seen a sponsor get their money back. its a advertising expense. Are you sure you've been to college?? Maybe you should look into a business class or two.....

Are you thinking of investors vs sponsors?

A little advice is that investors don't always get their money back either.

For clarification the investor comment was not directed towards you. You might try local businesses that would benefit from the exposure. Then you just have to win and stay in the spotlight to keep them sponsoring.  ;)

You've never seen a sponsor get their money back?

Market research proves that successful sponsorship, which essentially is advertising, creates brand awareness which potentially generates sales of a product, which in turn generates revenue.

The best example would be the Tide sponsored NASCAR team from the '80's & '90's.  Procter & Gamble did some studies (market research) way back when and the results indicated that the NASCAR fans were brand loyal and that Tide's largest market share was in the Southeastern United States.  This was a result of their sponsorship of the racing car and the exposure it generated week in and week out, whether it be on the track, in a wreck or in the winner's circle.  The NASCAR sponsorship was a "vehicle" (no pun intended) to generate exposure which in turn generated revenue.  When mainstream television coverage of NASCAR really began in the early '90's, Tide continued to dominate the laundry detergent market segment.

That is how Procter & Gamble got their money back.

As far as a local company advertising on a race car for the Saturday night events at the local track, many folks may not be aware that "Jim's Auto Shop" or "Smith Printing" even existed until they saw the names of those local business painted on the quarter panel of a race car this past weekend at the track.

You moron - my post was directed at moparguy01.  He was the one that had said "I've never seen a sponsor get their money back".  You couldn't figure that out?   :shruggy:

Tell you what, if I pay you enough money, will you put a huge decal on the car that says:

WATCH OUT I AM A SHITTY DRIVER   :D

P.S. - Don't take me too seriously, I don't have any money.

Once upon a time, I sponsored several local stock cars. But, due to recent occurrences, I no longer do it. At a dirt track near Batesville, Arkansas. a few years back a car went out of control and went over the wall, killing a spectator that was walking by. His family hired an attorney and sued the driver, the owner and everyone that had their name on the car. To keep legal expenses down, each sponsor  just paid the family off. Unfortunately there's no type of insurance coverage for this type of thing. That ended my sponsorships completely.
Back when I sponsored a car I expected something in return. I'm not into the charity game. I wouldn't sponsor anyone that had just started or who hadn't won multiple races. The way that I worked it was to pay sponsorship dollars for every win. That way my name was out there but it didn't cost me anything until the guy did his part. Too many of the local stock car guys around here are looking for handouts.
I guess investing their own dollars cut into their beer money.
Good luck, hope you find someone to sponsor you.

Well said, Larry.  Those statements are going to be true of most "real" sponsors.

IMHO it's not fair to expect a business to shell out hard-earned simoleans just to underwrite someone's hobby (or their dreams of a racing future).  When you've proven to be a good racer, the sponsors might take more notice.  Until then, you'll probably have to treat it like any other hobby and pay the freight yourself.

It's also hard to see how anyone but a local business would get ANY return on their advertising "investment" either.  No offense, but a request for sponsorship in an internet forum like this is not too far short of asking for a donation.

Man, 2 Mods and the Admin have replied to this, and yet it still remains in the general section. You boys are slipping.  :nana:

Sorry kid, like Geno said, coming on an internet forum asking for sponsorship money is kinda odd. Try your local hardware store. Maybe the barber shop perhaps?  :yesnod:

So you don't really want any of the above.....you are just going to put names of people on your car that you have never met and don't know for some reason?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I've never seen a sponsor get their money back from the person they sponsored. it comes back in increased revenue because of advertising, but thats what it is. Sorry for the misunderstanding there.
