Can anyone confirm or discredit the myth that oil service companies that you "lock" a certain fuel price per gallon and include boiler service at "no-cost", per year, install a larger nozzle so that the burner consumes more oil? Let say on a typical Beckett burner, is the nozzle hard to change to a smaller nozzle?

In a way, it's kind of funny how I'm trying to reduce fuel flow to the boiler's burner, but then again I want to increase fuel flow to the 440 burner under the Charger's hood I have in the garage, is that insane or what?  oh, by the way, the answer is "no" to this second question!  :D

Seems like everytime I have my oil furnace serviced the guy puts a different size nozzle in there "to help it burn more efficient". They are easy to change. Im no expert but it seems to me if you put a smaller one in there it may burn less oil but wouldnt it need to stay running a little longer to stay up to operating temp?

I just had a new boiler installed last Saturday. My buddy told me that this one had a bigger nozzle in it so it might use a bit more oil but that may be offset by how long it would take to get up to temp.

I never heard of a "free burner service" if you lock in. I finally canned the oil company and got a guy who works for one to come in and do it on the side for 50% of what the oil company used to charge.

Ive been doing some reading up on Geothermal. A friend I work with has had it for awhile. Took a little bit to get up and running but  he loves it.

I have it in my house.  Most it ever cost per month was $108.  On average on a normal winter month Maybe $75.

Air conditioner in the summer $35.

I have a total house square foot of 3000

Here in NY - Long Island you have these companies like Petro, Slommins, Perillo, etc...that will service the boiler and change parts, if necessary(from a limited list) for free, only if you strictly buy the fuel from them; you have to sign an agreement to keep everyone honest. I can buy the fuel this week at $ 1.83/gallon at a local fuel guy with no strings attached. One of these "free service" company will sell you the fuel at $ 2.43/gallon and will lock that price for a year at that rate. So you can see where the "free" service gets paid from. So I'm wondering if they install the larger nozzle for greater fuel consumption or for efficiency purposes.

How many feet do you have underground?  Is it well style or looped?( in a pond?)  what did it cost to install it?  I had been looking at this also for my last house which was a gas hog.

Also, to note that you do not have to lower the temp during the day or night with geo thermal.  I keep my house at a constant 70-72 in the winter all winter long.
