Anybody know what the drag coefficient is for a 68-70 Charger? I have always wondered just
how aerodynamic they are?  ???

that brick grille can tell you already...not very aerodynamic

The front end sucks air like a a whale sucks up plancton and the rear window design causes drag, so a Charger is just about as aerodynamic as a barn door... but what the hell, it still looks cool..

Yeah I figure the grille would be a negative factor but I was just wondering what the actual number is compared to
other vehicles.

More information your not asking for:

In its day at NASCAR the front end would start to lift (around a 180 mph?). So the Daytona was invented.

not very, that's why they came out with the 500 and the Daytona

my car lifts pretty bad at 110 mph..  steering gets really light and the car starts to feel like it's floating along... i suspect having the right stance "down in front" would help alot,.. other then that, a front spoiler would have to help alot but the only car i seen running one of those is NYC Mille's...
anyone else try any mods?..
or maybe one of the '69 50 owners can chime in..
I bet Highbank's is a dream over a 100...

terrible one

Yeah, the guy I bought my Charger from told me that they would lift at around 115 mph. He said that he almost lost it with the '69 he had in high school because of that.

You guys can try all you want but you wont touch a 71 in the way it handles.

I had a 72 that did not ride as nice as my 68 but the 73 has a better ride, just don't look as good.

We arent talking about ride comfort!   :icon_smile_big:

We're talking about aerodynamics.   My 69 is a much nicer more comfortable car to ride in on the highway then my 71. But its no where close in handling at higher speeds. The 71 seems to suck down to the road at the higher speeds. Another odd thing is going down the highway with the windows down one could light a cigarette with no problems.

I will give you that, the 3rd Gens have much better aerodynamics.

myk

110?  Feels like the car starts lifting earlier than that.  Even if it isn't, you can feel the car fighting the air as it goes faster.  My 'Z28 on the other hand...

Ghoste

I used to like looking in the rearview and seeing the dust kick up in a continuous swirl from the shoulder of the road when I had my 69 out.  The 67 will do it but you have to be moving alot faster.

Nacho-RT74

who cares, engine beats aerodinamics :D

for better aerodinamic and handling go with 73/74 :D

Another fact is terrorific view on rear view mirror of other cars, so that's another factor to beat te rest... they just take appart :D
