My brother has a motorhome that's junk and I'm thinking of taking the motor out (runs good) to sell... I think it's a 440 but he swears it's a 360.  It has the distributer in the front and looks as big as my 440.  The emission sticker only shows the two motors 440 or 360 so would it be safe to say it is a 440? :shruggy:  Thanks.....................Chuck

Hey Chuck.  It should be a 440 with the dist. in the front. For sure it is NOT a 360". Check the pad next to the dist.  It will say 440 if it is. Some motor homes and industrial motors have a strange looking cooling system coming off the heads. Normal heads can be put in their place.

Pull the tranny too..

If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

Thanks, I thought it was...Now I have two extra 440s that run.  My buddy has an old 68 motorhome (thats junk)  with a stong 440 in it that I can have as well.   I'm going to keep one for myself and sell or barter the other. Once again, Thanks............Chuck

They may have been thinking it is an industrial 361 big block. I don't believe they ever used one in a motor home of those years though. You should have a 440 there. Oh, I mean, its a 318 with the distributor in the front. Give it to me. :yesnod:

I'm going out to look at it again today.  And if it is a 318 with the distributor in the front I will give it to deputycrawford since he asked first  :nana:...Chuck

Just take your brother out there and show him the number on the top of the motor on top of the block about 6 inches away from the distributer on the block where it should have a metal stamp on it that says "440"

End of argument.  ;D

Did they ever put 400's in motorhomes? Good luck and hope it is a 440.
