torque convertor ideas,what stall?

i have a 440 in the car now,mild build with the smaller summit cam(.465/.488,282/292)and will end up leaving it in the car until i can get time to swap in a hotter combo i built with firefighters input. my question is what stall should i get,preferably a mopar performance convertor(i get them at cost)

72 charger,3.55s,28 inch tall tires,the low stall stock convertor i have now just isnt doing it,and i can use a lift for an afternoon to swap it out,just looking for some ideas!

Andy, the MP 175K converter would work fine with that cam. It will stall at approx 2500-2800 rpm. PTC also makes a really good "econo" 11in converter that stalls around 2500-2800 for around $250.00 or so.

The PTC is a little better quality but will also cost you a little more.

Ps. Here are a few links to look at. Mancini has the correct part number for the MP 175K converter. CRT carries the PTC line if you decide to go that direction.

thanks Ron! i figured that the 175 would be good for this combo,and the new one once i get her in the car-ill check out the other also,i really wanted a second opinion,as i keep second guessing myself and dont have the spare cash to make mistakes!! ???

The 175 K would be my choice also. OH, I have owned one. Go for the 175 K The price verses the performance is great.

Anyone ever run the 166 k? would this be a good choice for a 280 474 110 cam?

01 Mopar, personally I would run the 175K. You would be surprised of the stall speed at part throttle. I have a 9 1/2 inch, 3500 stall converter in my 69 and it leaves a traffic light around 2000 to 2200. A 175K will leave around 1800 to 2000 on average. That will still light up the 474 cam and not burn off power in the part throttle mode. If you are going for the most performance in the MP converters, then go with the 175K in most situations. They work. Just my humble opinion.

what rpm  is it stalling at and hows it under  regular driving at 55 mph.

at part throtle it seems to be stalling about 2000,and standing on the gas it flashes to 2800,which with the 295/50 15s on the rear means a whole lot of smoke before she throws you back in the seat!

i will get some pics over the weekend,finally found my damn camera!

never did a neutral drop,dont want to break my fresh tranny! glad to help you with the wife though deputy,just tell her i said you were right!

Ok Andy, I told my wife I was right. She just looked at me like a puppy trying to understand. Oh, you should experiment with an 8 inch next. Maybe in the 4500 rpm range..That would be kewl.. :icon_smile_cool:
