How would you spend $3500?

I found out all my problem this hole time has been due to a bad trans. I have spent so much on this 833 od set up. So my option is now to spend 600-800 to have my 833 od rebuild again to maybe have it work right.

Even throw it sort of works now its shifting pattern sucks. Or spend the 3200 for the kesler 5 speed kit. I'm tired of droping a G here and another G here. I would love to have the interior finished and some rims but I need it to shift correctly first.

What would you do? I should be able to get some money for the two old trans and the new hyd parts to help off set the cost!

If originality on the car is not an issue to you the Keisler might be the best option, otherwise I'd have the 833 rebuilt to stock. Personally I plan on using the original 833 in my car because I'm into originality to a point. Where my desire for originality stops is with safety such as adding disc brakes, new wiring, etc., so I can stop the car and avoid having it burn to the ground. I'm even keeping the Inland shifter (which most people hate) because part of the experience to me is in paying tribute to the way things were.

If you only spend $800 getting the 833 rebuilt that would leave a lot of $$$ for finishing the interior and buying wheels.

What is wrong with the shift pattern? If your 3-4 shift is bassackwards, you need to flip the trans lever upside down. That's the way they are supposed to be on an OD transmission.

I would not use the Keisler , I have heard of & had to many problems with them
you may need to tweak or build a 3-4 shift rod to work corredctly with the inverted lever but i have done it many times & it works great  once it is sorted out

I fixed the shifter problem, it shifts in the proper dircetions. It just doesn't down shift or power shift. I'm going to get some prices on how much to rebuild. I just don't know. The shop that did rebuild it did replace all the Bering's and some seals. The old man thinks the syncros could of been replaced but they are already worn from my 180 miles of driving. SO were assuming the shop didn't do it write. The old man thinks it might be a bigger problem with a part that doseint come with the kit.   I guess what bothers me is if I spend another $800 and it still might not work.

This is just a 318 charger and I have already done so many mods going back to stock couldn't happen.
I'm trying to go with today tec for my ride.

I should be able to off set some of the cost buy selling the old parts. But how do people sell a full trans of ebay?  I have 2 833 alumman case with the bigger bearing one with OD and the other the gears where changed to stander 4 speed.

Chryco Psycho

depends what syncros he used , the Mopar ones are junk , they sold them for years even though they were not made correctly

I get the good ones in kits from a local tranny supplier, Brewers has them also

Nothing wrong with the Keisler 5 speed itself.   Great gear spread, got OD, short throw internal rail shifter.    I got about 5K miles on mine.
Before somebody starts whining it costs too much:  STFU (thanks).

The fitment problems lie with A and E bodies.   Yes you have to cut a hole but your car is not a #'s matching HEMI car so who cares.
Obviously if you're pushing VERY serious power (power adders, turbos, blowers, etc.) it might not be the trans for you either... but you'd be going places on a trailer anyhow so why worry about OD.    For most mostly street cars it's a great way to go.

My only regret is using the Keisler hydraulic throwout.  Been having intermittent problems with that.     I'm almost to the point of taking that  crap out and reverting to something like what you described you're using... a master / slave deal with a regular non hydraulic throwout bearing.

As far as the 833 OD.   CP is the master.   It sounded like lousy syncros all along to me.

Thanks !!! Get this I finally found the number to the guy how built the trans. Of course he got a little hot. But he asked me what I want him to do.   So he told me to spend a $100 or so both ways to mail it to him in KS so He can have a look at it before he will do anything for me. He said he would try to fix it or compaste me some. But this is $200 more to hopefully fix a junk trans.  Should I build a crate and ship it to him or just sell it as is.

I also bought the TKO 600 to day from kesler. With all the parts That I get to sell I should make a good cunk more back.

Hey did you keep the 3 finger clutch or use the dyafram clutch?

Rolling_Thunder

I have the Tremec transmission in my car as well and have very few complaints....    only problem was getting it to fit....    (i didnt use the Keisler custom kit thing)...      other than that i have no problems...    Trans was just reinstalled today with the big block -  I seems to have about 1000 miles on it so far and absolutely love it...     cant go wrong with 2000rpm at 70mph...     and be able to launch quicker than a vette....

I went with a diaphfram clutch set up...    also using the hydraulic throwout bearing...   seems to be working fine...

They do go UPS, I've shipped 100's of them, just box it up right. A tidbit on the trans, the problem is usually not with the stop rings but the slider assembly and the clutching teeth on the gears. I think their made out of cottage cheese. I won't go into it, Since you went ahead with the TKO, good luck.
