Many recommend the Holley Street dominator when hood clearance is an issue.

Alan, if the engine is stock to mildly built the old edelbrock CH4B is an excellent choice. It looks stock but performs much better and is a dual plane design meaning it will make lots of bottom end power, better than the street dominater below 3000rpm. These come up for sale fairly often on e-bay for around $100 or so. It is slightly taller than stock but will work with an air grabber setup just fine.

Stock throttle and kickdown linkages will also work with this manifold which is another bonus....no messing around with aftermarket cables and brackets ;)

These were sold many years ago by dealerships under the "Direct Connection" program and many of the old manifolds even have a pentastar cast into them.  :icon_smile_cool:

Ps. Chris (just69rt) has one on his engine in case you're curious about appearance.

Ron,

How does the CH4B compare to the later 440 cast iron intake with the larger runners performance wise? I think I will be doing an intake change this winter and a stock appearance is a must. I already have one of the later cast iron ones.

Thanks

The 70-71  440 manifolds are actually quite good and by far the best cast iron manifolds ever made by Mopar. MM used one on their manifold shootout several years back and the engine made 575hp with that piece. Not as good as a ch4b but still descent. The iron stocker was the lowest power producer on that particular build but the power numbers were still surprising none the less.  :yesnod:

Like Ron stated I have a CH4B and I have no complaints about it.

It "looks" pretty stock except for the Edelbrock script on the front & the placement of the coil which gets moved to the front more so you can run a Holley....it even has a Mopar part # cast into it ;)
