nice striped and badged magnum sedan you got there.. i have to admit i'm still one of the ones that point the thumbs down when i pass one.. i absolutely can't stand them. especially the ones that think they "look cool" in one.. funny i'll pass a 20 year old in one that thinks he's top dog in town, then 2 cars behind him is either a 40 year old soccer mom or a 60 year old grandpa in the same damn car. funny as hell
good luck with your car..

Nice ride bro! Welcome to the site. Yea, there's a few haters here..........I just think they're in the closet about their true feelings.  :icon_smile_kisses: :icon_smile_shock: :icon_smile_kisses:  Isn't that right Bull??  :D :nana: :D

I don't really understand the term "hater" when it comes to opinions about cars. And I don't remember being "closet" about any of my feelings on this site. I usually don't go on the attack but when someone brings it up or, more often, asks my opinion I will gladly offer something to the effect of "muscle cars in general, and Chargers specifically, never came with four doors" or "why didn't they name it after something with four doors if they were so hellbent on using a classic name" or "that thing looks like a catfish" or "the only semblance to any classic Mopar is the Cuda-esque quarter panels" or "why can't the Germans pull their heads out of their collective :moon: when designing American cars?" etc. I'm sure the car is fun, fast and (insert positive adjective here) but I am underwhelmed  and unimpressed regarding its design to say the least, especially considering the name it was given. Had they assigned it a classic name of a car that had four doors I would be fine with it. I would not be all that excited about it but I wouldn't be annoyed like I am now. Coronet or Fury would have been perfect names for what they built: a mediocre-looking cop car, taxi or family sedan with some balls. I think DCX knows they dropped the ball on those of us who really think the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen Chargers are the best-looking cars ever made and I think they are trying to mend that rift with the new Challenger. But in my opinion, until the '06 is made to look like a Charger or renamed, it is not a Charger and I'm not ready to run back to them and empty my wallet until they do that and show me they've really decided to give a rat's a$$ about the legacy of American muscle. The Germans do know how to do retro because they made a new VW Beetle that looked like an old one; apparently they hold the Beetle's classic design in higher esteem than they do the design of our Chargers.

Anyway, Welcome to the site and I'm glad you like your car. Things might be a bit tepid around here regarding the '06 but I know there are some websites dedicated to the Magnum, 300 and your car where you'd be less of a minority. I think one of them is www.LX-something-or-other. :shruggy:

Sorry bro, "hater" was/is a poor choice of words......I was just busting your stones. :-[

You have people who hate the '06 on this site AND THEN you have people who hate the haters of the '06.......as if their opinion is the only one that matters.

BBD

What's with all the hate? How about we just disagree? Remember, it's just a car. And just for the record, your opinion counts just as much as anyone else's here. :yesnod: :2thumbs:

I'm not the one who brought the 'hate' issue here see your own post above............... :P. There are some on this site that would disagree about your opinion counting if it does not agree with theirs. Sad but true.

Because I'm not fond of the '06 I'm labeled as a 'hater' as are others who share my opinion.

Whatever. ;D

BBD

You are correct, and I apologize.  Again, sorry for the use of the word "hater". :-[

I'm gonna go stand in the corner now. :icon_smile_sad:

Welcome!

I have to say that blacking out the grill is one of the best visual improvements to the car. My roommate's parents have a silver 2006 R/T with a chrome grill and it really does nothing for me. Also, that horrendous cream color makes me cringe. Even though I still really don't care for the looks (love the performance!), an all black SRT-8 has a certain appeal. The Daytona package is a step in that direction as well and the high impact colors help to break out of the junior-accountant-with-two-kids mold.

If you do decide to buy one of the classics you're in for a surprise when it comes to the price of parts versus the LeMans. You'll find lots of help here on those but, hopefully, you won't need much help/advice on your brand new one.

Nice.  As if a great many old people don't drive the '60s - '70s Chargers.  Am I supposed to think that my car isn't cool if a 40 year old woman drives it?  When my dad had his '70 Charger, my mom was a "soccer mom" and she drove that - big block, four on the floor and all.

No, no, no! I'm not jumping you about it. And yet I had the feeling once I posted it I should have added a smiley or not quoted you because I didn't mean to come across as being mad at you. :-[ Sorry. I should apologize for portraying that since it's difficult to read others in this format, and you just caught me in a serious mood unrelated to your comment or this topic.

Anyway, maybe I should wear the "hater" badge with honor concerning this vehicle but I truly do not hate it. However, as you all know I am quite disappointed that the current regime at DCX apparently does not hold the name Charger in very high esteem by making it what it is today rather than honoring what it was and has become. They did a half-assed job IMO (performance good, looks bad, or better yet, wrong) and had they done it all the way right we wouldn't be having these debates. The one good thing that has come as a result of this controversy is the new Challenger. Sadly it's too late for the Charger but at least DCX knows many of us have been very turned off by the whole debacle and are trying to make amends. Like I always say, if GM were to build a four door Camaro that looked nothing like a Camaro and Ford were to build a four door Mustang that looked like a Taurus those folks wouldn't be any happier than I am. But then again I don't think anyone at GM or Ford is dumb enough to do that to their core supporters.

The Charger is what it is, but unfortunately it's not what it was.

That is what 20 year olds do - think they are top dog in town, even if they drive some crappy old toyota corolla. It is because they are 20. Not because they think they are Dr Z.

Welcome to the board.  My son has an '06 SXT Charger.  I have a Top Banana RT Daytona because it looks great next to the Rumble Bee, especially with the yellow '66 on the trailer.  They're all great rides.  What's your number?

2006Daytona

Wow - I didn't mean to cause such a row.

PS---any relation to a Richard Calabro from NJ? - Nope - We do hail from Philadephia/NJ but that name doesn't sound familiar.

My badge number is 2700 - when people look they are a bit confused because it is an "even" number and they don't know they all have different numbers.

It seems one of the biggest complaints is the 4 doors. I do agree that a 4 door car is far removed from any classic muscle car. But it is a new era in Muscle cars. The same old crap that has been churned out for years from the big three had to stop. Chrysler is the only one that got on the ball and now has some great products. Ford and GM still churn out the same old crap and I just wish they'd both go away.

And look at the target audience for the new Charger. Who has $40,000 to spend on a car? Certainly no kids! So they target is the family. The Charger got family car of the year in like 8 magazines - and for good reason. This car is everything it should be for its target audience.

I actually sent a letter to GM last year blasting them for their crappy products and poor management. I told them (among other things) that if they are having meetings and anyone even mentioned using a name that has already been used, that should be immediate grounds for dismissal. I never go a reply from them.

Oh and I do agree that this is the sedan version of the Magnum.

Does anyone have any experience with the Hypertech programmers - supposed to give 18hp boost. I'd like to ask someone that has used it if its worth the $350.

It wasn't you.  I am sure someone would have started a thread bashing the new Charger as it has been a few days since we had a new thread.   ::)

As mentioned, you probably won't find a lot of inofrmation or experience from other members with regards to the late models.  Although there are few members that have them, there is not a lot of conversation about the new Charger, other than what you read in this thread.

We have a tech section, where you could post a question but most of the stuff in there relates to the restoration of the older models and how to keep them running.

Give it a try, you might get a hit.

Welcome to the site! It's not what I would expect them to unveil or try and sell me under that badge. But it's cool that you are enjoying your ride in the same way everyone else enjoys their own ride, from a WRX to Chargers.

For this car, I think they should have come up with a completely new name for it altogether. Maybe even referenced Charger, and other Dodge muscle history in the marketting of it. But then everything would have made sense to me. They could have thrown in a dash of retro here and there, as they did, *without* having to deny it in the same sentence and things were "all new" and not retro. Their commercials -- updated hair of the dog, everything would have chimed in a better tune for me. 4 door/modern sedan styling outrage would not have existed. Etc. Etc.

Believe they would certainly sell as many, if not more, by maintaining a "happier" Mopar world. I'm not one who believes there is "no such thing as bad press", and I certainly found some of their communications rather off-putting as a potential customer on any level. Local commercial blurb on it the paper said "..it was not what krusty old fans of the classic were hoping for..". Nice.

Stupid as it is -- and I'm admitting to being slave to the marketting somewhat -- but I would not be nearly as frustrated, if at all, whenever I saw one if things had been handled a wee bit different.

On a board level, I don't really think it makes sense to throw in '06 mechanical discussion with classic stuff. I mean there is a logical mechanical bloodline there all the way up into the Cordoba stuff. Parts wanted/for sale too - doesn't make much sense. I would think an LX dedicated board would be the place to go for that stuff. Not trying to turn anyone away! Just saying... it seems to make sense to me.

Are you suggesting that the mustang, camaro, and any future car should be a 4 -dr.  Hmmmm maybe a 4 door viper.... That would sell to the masses.......

MUSCLE CARS DO NOT HAVE 4 DOORS PERIOD.

well you are being very civil in your post replies.. so hopefully everyone else will(me included).. i am just pissed they didn't use old styling cues and put the 4 doors on, just can't get past that. your car in particular(yellow on black). is definitely my favorite combo on the new ones by far. and i have to agree with troy, that blacked out grill is far superior to the chrome one, it is more subtle which is a good thing. i do not make decisions here, but just personal opinion i think you are welcome to stay on this board and post all you like. you are one of the few "new charger" owners that i have met who is level headed, and very mature about his new 2006 charger. and i hope you get good use out of it. i will admit that at times i wish some of mine still had a warranty.. lol. BUT the one thing i do not regret is that if something goes wrong on mine, i can pretty much figure it out. on a new one, once it's out of warranty, you have to just bend over and say.. "screw me on the bill, cause i have no idea which sensor went out this time".. while they charge yopu $75 JUST to hook up and diagnose the problem. that is why i hate new cars.. anywho.  if you do any performance mods post them up. also what kind of real world gas mileage do you get out of it?

You aboslutely can't stand them but you have a favourite colour combo and you agree the blacked out grille is superior to the chrome one!  Sounds like you actually think the car is not too bad but you're afraid to admit it to yourself.   :D

And this Trav:
Quotei do not make decisions here, but just personal opinion i think you are welcome to stay on this board and post all you like.

Maybe you should PM 2006Daytona your address so he can send you a thank you card!

And finally:
Quoteyou are one of the few "new charger" owners that i have met who is level headed, and very mature about his new 2006 charger. and i hope you get good use out of it.

Can you share some of these experiences with us.  Maybe leave out the ones where a new Charger owner signed up to site by mistake and was treated in a similar fashion as you treatinig this new Charger owner.

Can someone define level headed!
