Hi All,

I'm new here on these boards. I hope to learn a lot from you guys. I love muscle cars. Ever since I sold my 66 LeMans that I restored over 3 years (sold about 10 years ago) I have been looking to get another muscle car.

Well, I recently got a 2006 Daytona. Am I in the wrong place? I enjoy car discussion boards but not sure what people here think of the new chargers - should I move on?

Robert

 ;) Yes and no.

There are some 06 haters here and they'll be quick to tell you what they think of the car.

There are many, me included, that wish it were named something else. Other than the mismatched name, the car is pretty decent.
I hope to have one soon - although it won't be a Daytona  :rotz:

Hang in there. See how it goes.

and welcome to the site!

Welcome to the board. Be aware that some people here don't like the new Chargers. But there are many (myself included) that really like them. Congrats on the purchase. They are a fun car. What color is it?

Thanks for the welcome - I LOVE the new charger - hands down the best car I have ever owned - with my 2 year old daughter, I really can use the back doors (even though I didn't like them when I first saw them). This car seems to me to be made for the people that would have been around when the first gen Chargers came out. Older, with families, needing a more "practical" car. This is a daily driver for me. I traded my 2000 300m for it. I am also going to look at the Challenger next year when it comes out.

Hey Man - welcome to the site!

Stick around and have some laughs at what some folks will have to say about your new ride.

I too am thinking about one of them there 4 door Chargers as I am also a family man with two young children.

Cool pic!

Seems like a Coronet would have been a better name then huh?  Maybe Monaco?  At least back in the day they made those in a 4 dr. version.

Anyway.  Glad you like your new car. ;D

In case you did not guess, Not a fan of the NAME for the car.  OTher than that I am ok with it.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Welcome aboard! Cool ride!!  I find my 68 R/T practical too, I take my two daughters and wife to church every Sunday and have plenty of room too! What is the best thing you like about your ride?

I pretty much like everything about it. It drives as smooth as silk but you can still feel the road and there is no doubt that this car is fast. The exhaust sounds super awesome and the head-turning quotient is off the charts. My wife drives it once in awhile and she loves the attention that she gets.

The high speed power is just crazy! It tools right up to 80 with plenty of reserve to spare.

The 5 speed auto shifts firm and Dodge got the shift points just right. I can corner almost flat and it holds the road like no other.

The creature comforts are excellent - leather and suede, power, heated seats, GPS, DVD player, power adjustable pedals. Just about the only thing they forgot is the memory on the seats since my wife likes it different than I do.

There really is nothing that I don't like.

The reason that I even looked at it was I was looking at 06 Mustangs and no one had the one that I wanted. So while they located one, I test drive and fell in love with this one! I got it 3 days after that first test drive.

I'd like to get a "classic" one day when I have the time but that is looking farther and farther off. It sure is nice to have a warranty!

Punch the throttle at 60 mph...you'll be up to 110 in no time. Kinda like the old hemis are (supposidly, i've never driven one) they excel at higher rpms.

What's with all the hate? How about we just disagree? Remember, it's just a car. And just for the record, your opinion counts just as much as anyone else's here. :yesnod: :2thumbs:

Cool car Robert and welcome to the site.  I would have opted for the GoManGo one myself, but I'm partial to that color.  ;D

Stick around and have some fun.

I don't really understand the term "hater" when it comes to opinions about cars. And I don't remember being "closet" about any of my feelings on this site. I usually don't go on the attack but when someone brings it up or, more often, asks my opinion I will gladly offer something to the effect of "muscle cars in general, and Chargers specifically, never came with four doors" or "why didn't they name it after something with four doors if they were so hellbent on using a classic name" or "that thing looks like a catfish" or "the only semblance to any classic Mopar is the Cuda-esque quarter panels" or "why can't the Germans pull their heads out of their collective :moon: when designing American cars?" etc. I'm sure the car is fun, fast and (insert positive adjective here) but I am underwhelmed  and unimpressed regarding its design to say the least, especially considering the name it was given. Had they assigned it a classic name of a car that had four doors I would be fine with it. I would not be all that excited about it but I wouldn't be annoyed like I am now. Coronet or Fury would have been perfect names for what they built: a mediocre-looking cop car, taxi or family sedan with some balls. I think DCX knows they dropped the ball on those of us who really think the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen Chargers are the best-looking cars ever made and I think they are trying to mend that rift with the new Challenger. But in my opinion, until the '06 is made to look like a Charger or renamed, it is not a Charger and I'm not ready to run back to them and empty my wallet until they do that and show me they've really decided to give a rat's a$$ about the legacy of American muscle. The Germans do know how to do retro because they made a new VW Beetle that looked like an old one; apparently they hold the Beetle's classic design in higher esteem than they do the design of our Chargers.

Anyway, Welcome to the site and I'm glad you like your car. Things might be a bit tepid around here regarding the '06 but I know there are some websites dedicated to the Magnum, 300 and your car where you'd be less of a minority. I think one of them is www.LX-something-or-other. :shruggy:

Welcome to the site. There's a guy where I work who just bought one like that a few weeks ago. Same color, even has the sun roof. Not a bad looking car for four doors :icon_smile_big:

I'm not the one who brought the 'hate' issue here see your own post above............... :P. There are some on this site that would disagree about your opinion counting if it does not agree with theirs. Sad but true.

Because I'm not fond of the '06 I'm labeled as a 'hater' as are others who share my opinion.

Whatever. ;D

Welcome Robert.

Very nice choice of colors.   I almost bit the bullet a few months ago on the same color.   I couldnt justify it.

I'm with the camp that thinks they should have named it something else but is a nice car none the less.

Cruising with my 69 one day and a black SRT-8 pulls up next to me.....older gentleman (50+) was driving with a gangsta lean & dark shades.   We got past the "nice car man'''s and I asked him how he liked the car........ "scares the crap out of me!......and I love it!"   :drive:

Good luck with the car.
