Wow, you can see where they hacked the window plug out of the car...  :rotz:  Pretty sad sight there, for sure.  I'd be interested in logging the VIN too (if anyone confirmed what it was).

Hey Danny - notice the green paint on the marker bezel?

I'd take a guess and say it might be one of many of the cars that PCG Dave had rescued. It resembles one he pulled out of an Indiana junkyard. At one time he had about 7 daytonas he rescued from junkyards no matter how bad .Ive seen his pictures. Or it might be the rumored unsalvageable never for sale.Ted Stephens daytona in the Albama junkyard that Ive heard people talk of over the years.

The car from Indiana had a white stripe and a window plug.  It's not the same car.

I did find the picture .And it wasnt a black striped car.But still Dave at PCG had several junkyard rescued daytonas .Can anyone collabererate the rumored existence of the the maybe in Alabama. We already seen the burnt TX daytona sell. That I would say was in worse shape

If thats the daytonas trunk lid in the trunk upside down in the picture .It looks to have a blue colored edge in front where its capped. And shows signs of green on 1/4.I know someone that was in that yard many years back buying a AL rust-free 69 charger rear clip and told me about a hammered daytona .I recall later reading about a similar car In MCG that did a story on the AL mopar junkyard..Where as it matched the story told earlier by daytona RT SE about the vin tag stolen off the car .And it wasnt for sale or going to be crushed either. After thinking about it for a while tonight after daytona RT SE reminded me of a same matching story. I'm 99% sure this is the one in Ted Steven's yard, it's been there forever.  The Vin was swiped off of it years ago, so Ted leaves it sit, refusing to sell it or crush it, as long as it sits there the crooks that stole the VIN will have a tough time doing anything with the numbers....

At least this is how I remember the story I read somewhere years ago :-\

GREEN684SPD

if im not mistaken on one of the aero pages on cars in barns there is a photo of that car from back in the day sitting next to a mobile home.also would that possibly be whats left of the daytona that was converted into a camper special?

I know that car, I know where it came from. The guy who had it before Ted told me the story. A kid had it in the early 70s and pulled a Vanishing POint and tried to run through a road block. He LOST!  They had to pull the right front wheel out of the dash, WITH A TRUCK. It is KILLED. All the leftovers were picked clean when the other guy got it. They found the VIN on a plain jane 318 Charger in Birmingham AL but the Cr*ckwh*re wouldn't sell the car. (that is not an exaggeration that is EXACTLY what she was) I had a piece of trim off that car at one time, not sure where it is now. I just wanted a piece of a Daytona!

There is NOTHING SAVABLE on the car, the fender tag is in safe hands, so nobody can buy the car's remains and try to clone it.

That Daytona, if a guy bought it and restored it w/the vin tag in place and put it up for sale and none of us knew about its past condition,as long as it wasn't listed as a totaled car, well.........
A donor car would need to be used to save it,plus it would take a knowledgeable bodyman a few months time, to be back on the road. It happends more than many of you think, cars/trucks getting wrecked and not being reported, repaired and resold w/little to no info. I don't do this type or work, but its happens everywhere.

Thanks Geno. I missed that post didn't I. My apologises. Another won bites the dust.
Mark
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

hemigeno

Well, even if the VIN tag was still there and it did sell -- there are enough people besides myself that know the VIN of the car and could sooner or later ID the car for what it is.  The only question would be if the buyer of this hypothetically-rebodied Daytona happened to check with one of these groups or persons who know "The Rest of the Story" before finding out the hard way what had been done to it.

dads_69

I hear what your saying Geno. But if I had the car, and repaired it, would I list it as a Daytona, yes, if I had all the info. to go w/the car. Would I explain the past of it, yes, its only fair to do so. It is what it is, but being many people are buying these types of cars, and selling them, what can we do. We all don't know our cars past history on line here. For those who do have that info. congradulations. There is a 500 here at a local wrecking yard, I cut the roof off of it years ago w/the back glass intact w/the rear window plug. Car was totaled long before I got ahold of it, picked clean of everything as well. There is not a damn thing left of the car, I would buy it, but there really isn't anything left to buy.

Even if they aren't it would look good in the empty garage space I have.

pettyfan43

Guys, I have been over this car MANY MANY TIMES, The car was owned by a guy I used to buy parts from years ago. There AIN'T NOTHIN LEFT! ALL of the serial numbers were removed many years ago. He and another buddy of mine traced the numbers down by the fender tag. It was on a plain jane 318 69 Charger in Birmingham AL about 15 years ago. This car was demolished in around 71. Both the guy I know that owned the car and Ted bought it for one reason. A conversation piece. When I first saw the car in the late 80s or early 90s it was pretty much the way you see it. ALL the good stuff is gone and the thing is wadded up like a beer can. There literally is NOT a straight piece on the car. There whole car is just bent up. The windshield posts are nearly vertical!

The car has had major chunks cut out of it, IMPORTANT major chunks.

I DO KNOW who has the fender tag, I KNOW it is safe because I know how this guy is.

As I said before, I have been ALL OVER this car. It is GONE. The only things I can tell you as far as how the car was equipped is that it was a 440 car , red with a black interior and stripe and i am 90% sure it was an automatic. ANd it DID have Magnum 500s. As far as I know the guy that pulle dthe wheel out of the dash, still has the wheel. He did when he had the car. ( I wanted it but he wouldn't let it go) The piece of trim I had  was one of the drip rail mouldings.
But rest assured, that thing is TOASTED.  The numbers and such are scattered to the 4 corners.

It really is sickening to look at. It WAS  a really cool car.  :'(

THE CHARGER PUNK

the last posts werent about that destroyed daytona, they are about a c500 that dads 69 cut the plug out of a junkyard near him :yesnod:

69_500

You are correct there Charger Punk, my last few post were about the C500.

However the Daytona is definately a good conversation piece. I wasn't aware that the numbers from that car are now on another car though. I had always heard that the car's numbers were in a safe place so that no one could put them on another car.

pettyfan43

What is put away is the Fender tag. They guy that had the car before Ted told me he adn another Charger (Major Charger guy in the Hobby) Had traced the serial number on the car and it was registered on a plain jane 69 Charger IN B'Ham.  This is just what I was told. The other guy is the one that (SUPPOSEDLY) has the Fender tag.

I will be speaking to the other guy Sometime after Wednesday.  I MAY be able to update IF I can remember to ask him about the story I was told.

I have ABSOLUTELY no reason to doubt what I was told.

I really hate to see those cars like this. It HURTS! :rotz:

dads_69

So petty fan, what your saying is that the car could be brought back to life if he wanted it to, by using another car for parts for the restoration of course? if not, then, well, that just sucks knowing that he has what he has that is needed to bring the car back onto the road so do speak. Previously totaled, yes, but repaired correctly and wallah! Is it lack of funds, a car, interest or something different? Inquiring minds want to know.

The vin tag never was put on another car -    I got it along with the trunk lid and trunk hinges    I gave it to a BIG time mopar collecter for a conversation piece ,so Im sure its very safe and sound - this was back in 1987 or 88   !!!!!
