Those bad boys just left our local airport last week, Group of 3 warbirds touring the country. a B17, B25 & B24 bombers, I think that must be one of 'em. Took the kids to see them, they sound awesome. here's the link....http://www.collingsfoundation.org/cf_schedule-wof.htm

I think that's the same B17 that they were giving rides on here. It comes around once a year to West Bens right before the EAA air show. I love the sound of the old WWII war birds :yesnod:

Hey Todd!   Do they have a set of like three on display at the airport?   That's what they did here at our airport!

Which reminds me.  The last time they came to town, they were supposed to fly in from Colorado and pass over our city at noon on a Monday, which is when they do the town Fire/Tornado siren drill.  I was countin' on that so that I could run outside and yell  AIR RAID!!!!!

But they came in about 20 minutes early (dang-it) :cussing:

From what I heard on the radio  there is just one B17 in town. I think it came from Arizona. I dont know if its affiliated with the above web site of the 3 birds touring. I think this may be a seperate deal. I am gonna try and go out and see it at the airport tomorrow or thursday.

A few years ago we were having fighter jets way up high zooming by. It was awesome, they go from one end of the sky to the other in like a few seconds, they were loud too but you hear the noise just after they were gone. Not sure where they fly them now but we have hardly anything but news helicopters anymore. :icon_smile_sad:

We have those flying out here in Long Island just about every weekend. Republic Airport (where WWII P47 Thunderbolt were made) has a flying museum with a B17 Flying Fortress, P40 Warhawk, P61 Black Widow, P51 Mustang, F4F Wildcat, P47 Thunderbolt, B24 Liberatorand B29 Superfortress. I don't live that far from Republic airport and you can hear them before they are in sight. On July 4th they all took off and they looked like they were going on a sortie - awesome view!! If you have $ 385, you can fly right seat on a B17 for 30 min.

An old timer that was in the Air Force there at the museum told me that the saying "give them the whole nine yards" came from the commanding officers telling their pilots to empty out the whole capacity - 9 yards of 13mm ammunition belt that each Thunderbolt carried in their wings!

Well, that one is not the same one we had here this past July. The one that was here has a red tail rutter. Did this one ever see any actual combat? The one that was here never did.

Go to that web site Brian S posted. It tells about the plane's history.
